County school superintendents and boards of education from seven counties gather in Vidalia for a rural conditions conference on Saturday January 29. State Superintendent M L Brittain may attend and a number of leading educators are expected. County Superintendent T B Youmans, in Vidalia Monday, plans to announce the program soon.
January 16, 1921, B Y P U group 3 held a hearty welcome and program on Stewardship of Time. Rev. J. T. G. Anderson spoke on The Meaning of Stewardship and readings by Madge Bland Eva Hart and Pearl Price. Mr. W. L. Downs delivered Redeeming the Time. Lorene Anderson led. Mr. J. J. Strickland made a business trip to Atlanta Monday.
At the regular meeting of the local lodge of Odd Fellows the new officers were installed for six months. S. B. Taylor is Noble Grand, H. B. Elijah Vice Grand, A. F. Sawyer Treasurer, P. W. Leverett Secretary. The lodge moved to a new hall over Union Pharmacy leased for five years and begins the year in fine shape.
Junior B Y P U presents a program with a Fisherman theme based on John 1 41 42. Featured works include poems Loyalty by Emory Raburn and Peter the Fisherman by Eloise Raburn along with pieces Peter the Witness Peter the Fearful and Peter the Shepherd by various authors. Captain Jack Meadows moderates the event.
New officers for the local lodge are T. J. Ford Counselor M. E. Hall Vice Counselor J. P. Hall Recording Secretary S Taylor Financial Secretary C D Humphreys Treasurer The lodge will meet in Odd Fellows Hall over Union Pharmacy during the coming year.
Hamp Smith of the county section allegedly forgot his mother-in-law Elizabeth Clark when their mule and buggy overturned crossing a stream. Smith escaped and later claimed he remembered nothing of her disappearance as searchers found her body downstream.

The Tri County Medical Association of Toombs Treutlen and Montgomery counties will meet at Vidalia next Wednesday afternoon at Vidalia Hospital Dr J W Palmer president of the state board of medical examiners will address a program on clinical cases A six o clock dinner at Vidalia Hospital will entertain visiting physicians
Vidalia public schools report student changes with moves in and out of the district. Mid term exams reveal those who studied little while parents are urged to cooperate. recesses are valued. supervision improves play and teamwork. plans include baseball gear, tennis and volleyball courts, and track work aiming for Hawkinsville in April.
The Vidalia city clerk will collect the highest business license tax to date from the local pool room owner Mr Ferris as he pays for operating in the city. The next tax schedule sets the pool room tax at 1500 with state county and government licenses. A Hot Dog tax will also be collected for the connected refreshment stand.
A M. D. and S. engine left the round table and plunged toward a lumber shed behind South Georgia Product Co. The train sank into soft earth and stopped before hitting the shed. After hours of effort the engine was hauled back and resumed service. The accident was caused by air brakes allegedly releasing.
The Vidalia Primitive Baptist church and family members celebrate the 40th wedding anniversary of Elder and Mrs. T. E. Sikes. A Sunday service included a sermon by Elder Lamb, a communal dinner, and at 2 PM a reminiscence of married life by Elder Sikes. Grandchildren read an original courtship story, and a family history paper was shared at the Sikes home. Numerous relatives from Glennville Savannah Toronto Ocila Cadwell Glennville Vida lia Chauncey Alamo Chester Cadwell and other towns attended.
The sale of 42 pure-bred Duroc hogs at Richmond and McArthur’s farm near Riley drew about two thousand people from the region. Prices ranged from 80 to 500 dollars with a 6300 dollar total, a sow bought by Dr. Bahnsen of Athens. Buyers came from Kentucky and Iowa as the Georgia Florida Grand Champion Duroc Circuit conducted the event.
At the annual meeting of the First National Bank stockholders, the bank reported a prosperous year and a 5 percent semiannual dividend. Directors W. O. Donovan Jos W Sharpe Geo S Rountree Fri Ws Sharpe L D Williamson and C P Phillips were re elected. Former officers W O Donovan president Jos W Sharpe vice president Geo S Rountree cashier T W Willets Jr and Miss Emmie Roberts assistant cashiers Hal Macon bookkeeper were named to serve the bank for the ensuing year.
There will be a special examination in the Lyons school building on January 22 1921 for teachers without certificates or those wishing to take the exam. T B Youmans County School Supt.
