Popular Matron 15 Claimed by Death
The death of Mrs. Belle Jackson Mathews, wife of Mr. Mark W. Mathews, occurred Saturday afternoon after several days illness. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Monday with Rev. J H Mather and Rev. W M Blitch officiating. Interment followed at Pine Crest cemetery. She leaves three daughters, her mother Mrs. Jackson of Wadley, two sisters, a brother and other relatives.

Mercer Prohibition Officer Visited Vidalia En Route to Savannah

At Gillis cemetery Friday the remains of Sergt. Marvin Gillis who died in France in October 1918 were interred. He was 29, son of A A Gillis of Soperton, survived by his mother, one brother Z R Gillis of Covena, and six sisters: Mrs F L Philips Covena, Mrs Sallie Durden Norris town, Mrs Christine Lamb Covena, Mrs Dodge Summer Norristown, Miss Bobbie Lee Gillis Soperton. He served in Co B with M G Bth.

Will Plant Good Acreage In Tobacco

Kiwanis Club Organized in Vidalia After Citywide canvass
Following a conference at the New Vidalia Hotel, a Kiwanis Club was organized under National Organizer Warren Kimsey. A canvass enrolled 52 charter members, with W. J. DeLoach as president and Royal Page among directors. Meetings are set for 8:30 p.m. at the New Vidalia. A charter presentation is planned for month end, with 50 to 100 visiting Kiwanians expected.

Williford Resigns as County Demonstrator at Lyons
At Lyons meeting, County Demonstrator T Y Williford offered his resignation to accept a higher paying post as Warren County demonstrator. No replacement decided yet. The commissioners praised the self supporting city court and agreed to continue the county policeman. Federal aid talks for state roads were tabled for later. Road crews will resume work in spring on Manns Ferry to South Thompson.

B F Southwell Dies At Home In Bellville
Former Vidalia resident B F Southwell aged 65 died Saturday afternoon at his daughter’s home in Bellville. Funeral services were held Monday at the Vidalia Methodist Church with Rev W M Blitch officiating. Interment was at Pine Crest Cemetery. He resided in Vidalia until moving two years ago to Bellville. Survived by six sons and two daughters.

City Council Adopts New License Schedule 1921
City council at a regular meeting adopted the 1921 license schedule with minor changes. The pool room tax is a flat 1500, replacing last year’s 500 plus 100 per additional table. Officers for the year were named: Duggan city clerk Tate light and water chief Love police Prescott policeman. The council will consider bidding for a city property map once bids arrive.
