Civil Service exam set for Mt Vernon post office vacancy
President Harding orders a Civil Service Commission exam for the Mt Vernon post office vacancy. The test will be held in Vidalia on August 13. New Crop Trial Yields First Shipments of Big Stem Jersey Potatoes
Following Eastern North Carolina guidance a group of Johnsons Corner farmers planted eighteen acres of Big Stem Jersey custard potatoes. Their first carload shipped to Philadelphia sold for 9 to 11 dollars per barrel, with more cars planned as traders expect strong returns and hopes for earlier future shipments. Growers named include R. D. Smith, A. S. George, Frank George, W. J. Braddy, and L. C. Smith.

Funeral of Judson Geiger Follows War Sacrifice

Melon shipments surge from the county with Irish Greys
Six carloads of Irish Greys and Tom Watson melons were shipped the crest of the movement. A top carload price of 275 dollars went to the South Georgia Produce Company of Cincinnati Ohio, grown by Ed Crosby and bought by L C Lewis, averaging 35 pounds. The season totals show Georgia shipping 10 213 cars, tripling last year with bumper melon and peach crops. Rain has caused little damage and the season is regarded as ideal.
