Architect Named for First Baptist Church Tower
The First Baptist Church congregation named Guy A. Carlander of Amarillo to design a new church to cost about 100000 dollars. Plans will be drafted, with bidding possible in January or February. The site will be the current church and tabernacle lot at Paradise and Main, with the old building razed and materials salvaged. Carlander has previously drawn plans for local Smith and Dixon buildings, the new high school, and a W N Stokes residence remodel.

Thieves Take Townsends Car From Residence Garage
The Westcott automobile belonging to James V. Townsend was stolen from the W. C. Anderson residence on West Wilbarger Street Sunday night. It was found abandoned on a highway near Electra Monday afternoon with no arrests made. Townsend believes the thief abandoned the plan due to the car being unique in the area and easily identified. The garage was entered by someone familiar with the surroundings.

Former resident shot by unknown assailant Friday
Clovis Stokes, former Vernon man and brother of W. N. Stokes, was badly wounded in Beaumont Friday night when a shotgun fired through an open window struck him in the left shoulder. He was visiting a friend and listening to a radio program. authorities suspect a case of mistaken identity targeting the friend, a deputy sheriff. His condition improved by Monday and he had no known enemies. he works in production for a major oil company and recently attended his brother R. T. Stokes's funeral in Houston.

Telegraphic notice reports W. H. Simmons of Los Angeles died at 84 after long illness. Father of Mrs. W. N.
