New West Yamparika Street High School Nears Occupancy

The new high school on West Yamparika Street nears occupancy with plans to move grades six and seven from ward buildings to the old high school. A meeting with architect Guy A. Carlander and contractor S. P. Hughes will decide immediate acceptance. The building features fire proof halls, a T shaped plan, 24 rooms, and an auditorium seating 829. There is room to add junior college instruction next year, converting the old high school to a junior high. Local residents Mrs. Auner J. Lockett and Miss Tilma Lockett plan a trip to alias, Amarillo’s J. Ray passes through en route to Davidson, and Mrs. H. W. Norwood travels to Pine Bluff, Ark., to be with her kin g days after an appendectomy.

Lions Banquet in Electra Discusses Lake Kemp Diving Bell

Lions from Wichita Falls Ver non Burkburnett and Electra met in Electra for a banquet Wednesday night to discuss buying a diving bell for Lake Kemp to rescue drowning victims. A pulmoter has already been purchased for the lake. The event featured stunts by club members and Leon H. Brown of Vernon served as the main speaker.

South Vernon townsite planned near oil fields

Fr. L. Malloch has leased twenty acres in section 99 block 14 for a townsite named South Vernon adjacent to the South Vernon oil field. Land is from the Waggoner estate and will be plotted with streets and alleys half a mile north of current production. Electric lights and water will be supplied from the oil field.

Little Girl Reco vers From Gunshot Wounds

Bonnie Maynard a 12 year old girl living between Rowland and Thalia on the Williams farm is improving at a local hospital after being shot while her brother brought a 22 rifle from the house. Aiming to kill an opossum the gun discharged. the bullet entered the hand and passed through the body under the left arm causing multiple flesh wounds.

Teacherage Under Construction At Fargo School Site

A four room teacherage is being built on the southwest corner of the Fargo school grounds and will be completed soon. It will include modern fixtures and a kitchenette and will be occupied by the principal of the school.

J H Pendleton came home from McLean where he stayed at the bedside of his grandson J Aliie Pendleton aged 14 who died Sunday after several months of illness from diabetes. On his return he visited his son Dr Winston Pendleton in Kingfisher Oklahoma.

Major Kirby Named Head of U S Bureau of Engraving

Wallace Kirby, 0.8 A, was appointed head of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Washington. The bureau handles all U S paper money, stamps, and bonds. The appointment follows a bureau reorganization after a partisan clash two years ago when President Harding dismissed twenty six officials.

Cotton gin weekly total reaches twenty seven thousand

Ginning faced rain delay on Tuesday but Wilbarger County produced about 1000 bales per day last week. This week’s gin total is 27 240 bales, slightly above last year’s figure, with receipts at 7 442 bales the prior year. Local ginners estimate the crop is about half gathered now and may exceed 50 000 kilos if confirmed.

New Rooming House Planned at Pease and Bowie

M M Scruell has let the contract for a two story rooming house at the corner of Pease and Texas streets in East Vernon. G Cooper is the contractor on the framed building, 30 by 72 feet facing west on Bowie street. The house will contain 32 rooms with completion hoped in 26 working days. Workers began making forms for the concrete foundation yesterday, with extra men to rush the job.
