South Vernon No. 1 Stephens keeps blasting oil at 3,000 barrels per day with 8,100 barrels in above ground tanks and more earthen storage. Company adds 7,500 barrel capacity while awaiting a pipeline from Electra. fire risk grows though the well shows no letup, proving one of the best in North Texas and the Southwest.

Boy Scouts Help Organize a Crowell Troop

G L Taylor scout master and twelve local Scouts aided Crowell Friday in organizing a new troop. Before the meeting Vernon Scouts gave a band concert praised for good music. Between fifty and seventy five boys were disappointed due to transport limits, but a full troop of 82 was organized there.

Two crews lay a four inch oil pipeline from the Waggoner Refining Company plant west of Flectra to the South Vernon oil field, nineteen miles distant. Completion expected within a week barring rain or pipe arrival delays. Manager R L More notes work was slowed by last night's rain.

County Receives Six Hour Rain Showers

The county was drenched last night with heavy rain estimated at half to three quarters of an inch. Thunder rolled from 1 a.m. until 7 a.m. cotton in wagons was covered too late and will need drying, but there was no wind or major damage. Tanks are full and wheat growers benefited from the moisture.

Water line built to new oil field

Peck Huggins and associates completed a water line to the South Vernon oil field. Wells on A P Peck farm feed an earthen Dill land reservoir, supplying gravity pressure water to the field and prolonging drilling operations. water can reach two to three miles in most directions for future development.

Dr Dickenson to Preach Last Time This Year

Dr Robert E Dickenson will preach at First Methodist Church on Sunday morning marking the end of the current conference year. He completes his second year in Vernon and his twenty fifth year in the itineracy of the Southern Methodist Church. He heads the religious education department at Southern Methodist University Dallas and has filled the pulpit intermittently since leaving Vernon in September.

Red Cross Field Manager Visits Lin Conference

U S Villars, field representative of the Southwestern Division of the American Red Cross, was in Lin Sunday and Monday from St. Louis headquarters. He met with local executives to discuss the annual roll call and reported enthusiasm among chapters visited. Local members plan a roll call.

Active drilling in the Vernon field reports multiple rigs and planned tests. Wells include Sheerin-Meccamey No 1 Stephens, Bridwell Heydrick No 1 Stephens, and several Waggoner and Bond et al sites. Two recent deals indicate the South Vernon field is moving eastward. Mutual Oil of Wichita Falls contracted for a cable tool test on Zipperle land near Hemwringel holdings, while Wells-Guiberson Interests expanded acreage in sections 64 and 52, block 14, near a highly regarded geologic structure. Work begins within sixty days as operators push extensions.

Lions Triumph In Opening Season Win At Wichita Falls

Vernon high school Lions defeat Wichita Falls Coyotes 20 to 0 in the season opener before about 1,000 fans. Lions dominate with 107 rushing yards in the first quarter, while Coyotes struggle and sustain multiple injuries, including Steed with a fractured rib and dislocated shoulder for the Coyotes, and Withers for Vernon with a dislocated chip.

Sinclair Oil and Refining has secured right-of-way for a four inch line across Waggoner ranch lands from Electra. Humble Company negotiates with field operators to handle production for a line from Electra to the field. Texas Company may build another line, but certainty is uncertain. A Waggoner Refining plant line at Electra under construction may proceed. Contracts for leases in the field are drafted but await signing. construction likely to proceed if production rises.

Contract Let On Hotel Addition At Halley Hotel

Contracts were let Saturday for a third story addition and first and second floor changes at the Halley Hotel. G A Swinburn of this city won the general building contract and Hampton Metal and Plumbing of Vernon won the plumbing and heating bids. Electric wiring and minor parts to follow. Work to begin soon with remodeling of the stairway before the new story to minimize business disruption.

Fines in Justice Griffiths Court Totaled 1080

Sheriff officers raided gambling dens and disorderly venues Saturday and Sunday, arresting 56 petty offenders. The court collected 1080 in fines yesterday, with 26 detainees unable to pay and ordered to road labor. Raids over recent weeks have yielded substantial county revenues.

Doans Couples Wed in Odell Arrangements

Alfred Tatmon and Dolly Marie Coppa of Doans wed Saturday night at 4 30 in Odell with Rev W L Jenkins of the Methodist church presiding. Dolly is the daughter of Mr and Mrs W L Copps, recently from Oklahoma. Tatmon is son of Mr and Mrs R A Tatmon, long-time local residents. Levi Cubbs married to May Beaste Perkins, Levi Cubbs is the brother of Alfred Tatmon. Both couples will live in the Odell community, where the men farm.

Palace Drug Store Set to Open on Texas Street Tomorrow

Palace Drug Store in the Bark building on West Texas Street will open tomorrow morning. Owner Howard Richle says fixtures are installed and stock is arriving. The shop will offer a complete line of drugs sundries and cigars and cigarettes. Dr J Le Tull will assist in management and head the prescription department.

Funeral Held For J Homer Fergeson In Fort Worth

J Homer Fergeson 85 son of T M Fergeson died Friday in Albuquerque New Mexico after long illness. He was buried Monday at 10 a m from his father’s West Wilbarger street home with services by Rev RE L Moore and Rev Charles J Marts and interment at Mast View Cemetery. Withers May Return To Game Following Injury in Wichita

Vernon Lions halfback Clifton Withers was injured in a Wichita Falls game last Saturday. He remains in hospital in Wichita Falls but is improving and may return home within a day or two. His loss would be a serious blow to Vernon as he is one of the speediest backs in the all star backfield.

Tooley In Satisfactory Condition After Surgery

Edwin H. Tooley underwent surgery last Saturday morning at a local hospital and is in satisfactory condition. He is the son of Rev. KR V. Tooley, a former Tolbert Methodist pastor, and brother of Oscar Tooley of Tolbert. He taught at Kincheloe for a year and now teaches near Bigeitira in Wichita county.
