Vernon High School routs Paducah at Pair Grounds Friday afternoon 70 to 6. Players like Straight line, Withers and Bourland starred as Vernon used nearly every man, while Paducah managed a lone score on a late pass.
A petition with 404 signatures prompted a county Commissioners Court vote on issuing 6000000 in road bonds. The plan allocates 100000 for Colome Gulf highway and county line, 75000 for speed improvement, 25000 to three justice precincts, 50000 for paving gaps and surveys, plus bids for Gull highway project west toward Tolbert. John Cowan of Chiara is dead and Hub Lay of Wichita Balls is severely wounded after a gunfight at Albert Johnson Farm north of town. Sheriff Murphy and Constable Turkett arrested five men. Johnson, allegedly upset by lost chickens, stated he fired 15 shots, with authorities finding pistol bullets in outhouse walls. Johnson was not arrested.
Mrs H W Norwood hosts guests this week including her niece Mrs J K Brown of San Antonio and sister Mrs S A Puryear of Burkburnett.

W P Bates 86 pioneer and respected Mack resident died at home after a brief illness. Funeral services were held Sunday at 4 pm from his home with interment in Mack cemetery. He moved to Wilbarger county in 1888 and joined the Methodist church noting steadfast contributions to church work. He is survived by his wife and four daughters, with many friends attending from Vernon and other areas.

He died at the home of his wife's father, K L. Jordan. Besides his widow and six months old baby, the dead man is survived by his mother and father, three brothers and one sister. He had many friends and during his long illness some of them were at his bedside constantly.
The Andy Giip degree team of the Lo. O. B. will appear in Vernon at Odd Fellows Hall Monday night. The unit, not attached to any lodge, comprises off field workers and operates from Burkburnett. Members maintain lodge memberships and travel the Southwest, performing in navy towns and cities. The Journal lodge recently secured the team for the event, planned as a major local event. The Commissioners Court of Willbather County Texas has issued a statement about a bond election to fund county works including paving and water bond projects totaling $75,000 with allocations across precincts, pending voter approval.
