City installs fourth Fairbanks Morse engine for power plant
A 300 horsepower Fairbanks Morse internal combustion oil engine is unloaded for installation at the city light and power plant on Deaf Smith street. It is one of the first three such engines shipped into Texas and will take about thirty days to install under factory supervision. This engine brings total city horsepower to 906, with prior units of 20, 100, and 300 horsepower. The unit features a self greasing housing and resembles a large enclosed auto motor.

Fire department answered no calls Monday at the Vernon gin and no significant damage occurred before extinguishment. Two separate fires burned about two to three hundred pounds of seed cotton in storage bins, with the first at 9 a.m. and the second around 10 a.m. Investigators suggested the fire was started by sand and gravel hitting steel as cotton moved through the suction pipe.

Funeral for Albert Shelton Follows Gun Accident
Funeral services were held for Albert Shelton aged 20 at East View cemetery with Dr. BE Moore and Rev. FLT Johnson officiating. Shelton died Friday after being injured Thursday night when his right arm jaw and internal injuries occurred during an accident at the Cooperative Gin while repairing a belt. He lived near Vernon on the Frank Lockett farm and later Mesquite street. He is survived by his parents six brothers three sisters and many friends from Honey Grove and Vernon. Flowers were sent from friends and relatives including J M Young and other kin.
