Vernon is rapidly growing and the current high school house is cramped with 365 pupils on the roll and about 240 jammed into a two story building. Desks fill corridors and a yard shack serves manual training. Officials urge a new 500 pupil facility to meet future enrollment.

Fine Man Fined for Crashing Lamp Post on Main Street

A young white man was fined by Mayor Harry Mason yesterday for violating the traffic ordinance after crashing into a lamp post on Main Street. The mayor warned that fines may rise as lamp posts have been damaged three times recently and drivers often break traffic laws.
