Harrold dominated the county athletics meet winning most events. Bill Clynych led with four first places and a high overall score, Tolbert and Fargo also scored high as Harrold totaled 69 points to Tolbert 42, with Farge 12 and Okinuon 3.
Contests to determine interscholastic spelling match winners will be held Saturday morning April 7 at 10 o'clock. The Bourland Consolidated schools principal T. E. Pierce announced the event in Chars.
Vernon's new city park project advances with a lake, island and peninsular plans. Aims include a pavilion, bath houses, trees and grass along banks. Mayor Mason expects the park to rival Westhike in beauty and become a favored outing spot. Water access improves as the main line nears completion, enabling over 100 homes to gain city water once connected.
Keith Pigg and Lawrence Beta are senior patrol leaders of two newly organized Scout troops in Vernon. T N Musgrove and A Patterson are scoutmasters. Meeting to establish the units gathered about 50 boys at the First Methodist basement. Musgrove explained duties and a scribe was named Jack Eddieman. Regular meetings will follow and the group attended church services afterward.
Dr. Lewis Kopp of Central Christian church announces a Wednesday night evangelistic service in place of the regular prayer meeting followed by baptismal ceremonies. The service continues the revival that closed last Sunday at the church.
The Auxilliary of the Presbyterian Church will run a Saturday market at the Massi coffee grocery store. Saturday afternoon they will offer home made candies, chicken, meat loaf, cakes and pies for sale.
Mrs R V Manis departed last night for Fort Worth to undergo an X ray examination by a specialist for a disease complication. She has been frail for the past ten days.
Vernon voters engaged in a dog control crackdown and an election for city commissioners. Officials warn against loose dogs after recent bites while promising to seize unowned pets unless owners reclaim or pay for them. By 1 o clock today 28 votes were cast in a close race between Wiley Bennett and Vic Blackwood with heavy turnout predicted.
Shive school of Vernon won the junior track meet with 85 points at the fairgrounds. Fargo and Harrold tied for second with seven points each, Elliott four, Wolbert one. Chester Luttrell led with wins in 100 yard dash 11.6 seconds and 50 yard dash 6.8 seconds, also high jump 4 feet 7 inches. Shive won the 440 yard relay with Harrold second and Felbott third.
Post commander Pip M. Haney urges all American Legion members to attend the Confederate veterans entertainment at the Methodist church Tuesday night. The Legion states the event is voluntary and intended as a social gathering for veterans.
Census figures show Vernon gained about 1,000 residents since last year with school child counts shifting from 1,412 to 2,?00. The standard ratio used by the Census Bureau implies roughly 105 additional people in Vernon this year beyond the rise estimated by children.
The home demonstration agents for Baylor Knox Wichita and Wilbarger counties plan a summer camp at Coffee Creek 17 miles from Seymour on the Vernon road August 2 22 and 24 This decision was reached at a Vernon meeting with Miss Georgia Lanstrom Miss Janie Lon Foster Miss Bess Gillis and Miss Fula Goodfellow in attendance The camp location is described as ideal with ample shade and water A playground supervisor will be employed to ensure comfort and smooth operations for the visiting women
