At a Friday night directors meeting in the Jifawryv building Myatt Napier and Wt Winston were elected to the chamber of commerce board. Mr Ponder and Mr Smith resigned from the board as Mr Ponder moved to Fort Worth. The group discussed a possible press site for Yoxaus Technological College and considered options to secure about 20 acres to serve the school. The directors also vetoed membership in the West Pesius Chamber.

Three Fire Alarms Hit Vernon Saturday

Vernon records three Saturday fire alarms all from oil stoves. The third alarm destroyed a small cottage on Eagle Street, home of Mrs. Virgie Hewitt’s family. Firemen note the coincidence with a film shown about a giant fire.

County commissioners yesterday disputed claims that Tolbert Road would be closed for paving. The report states paving will begin west of the bridge with an opening for traffic via the old stock pens.

Business Men and Farmers Organize for Road Routing

Local business leaders and farmers formed a permanent group to advocate routing a new highway through the county from the North rather than the East. T. H. Shive was named chairperson, with O. Stummeroup as vice chair and Seth Tagrant as secretary. The organization plans immediate steps to secure the northern route and meet early to push the effort, citing greater regional benefit by avoiding duplication of an existing East route. A list of attendees includes Frank Minarik, T. Smith, W. O. Andersen, A. M. Tiath, and many others.

Huge Still Found by Sheriff’s Posse

Sheriff Jack Miller of Wichita County and Police Chief D. Rey led a raid 16 miles south of Harrold uncovering a hidden still in the brakes. A complete still house with water pump and pipe line was seized. Roy Gonne was caught in the attic. Two men, including Curley Wright, faced charges with bonds set. more than 40 gallons of liquor and barrels of mash were taken.
