South Vernon Oil posts field activity and expansion plans

In Vernon eight miles south of town, the Star rig is set to spud early next week while the Standard rig plans to rig up and spud later in the week. South Vernon Oil Company president L G Hawkins says development proceeds rapidly as three groups eye pipelines and potential Vernon refinery as output from the field nears 250 barrels per day with Sigler well, rising to 400 or more with two additional wells.

County Behind on Auto License Payments in Wilbarger

Wilbarger county reports 2788 of 1924 automobile owners have paid licenses and obtained seals. Last year about 8000 paid. the deadline has passed. Of those paying, 2500 were pleasure cars and 228 were trucks.

Retail Merchants' Field Manager Here Wednesday

A. Fenske field manager and organizer of the Retail Merchants Association of Texas visited Wednesday for a short conference with R. B. Sherrill, secretary of the local association. He plans to return this spring to advise members on collecting bad debts after arriving from Childress and stopping in Loff for a few hours.

Measles Strike Nine in Vernon Wagon Yard

A welfare committee of the local Elks lodge found a family of nine in Ver non struck by measles in a wagon yard. Four slept in one bed, others in a small room with almost no food or conveniences. Immediate relief was provided including a nurse and ordered food.

Crawford funds himself into grocery business overnight

J. R. Crawford unexpectedly entered the grocer trade after winning a contract to clear fire ruins at the Missie Coffee grocery store. He found canned goods unharmed beneath the ashes and began selling them at bargain prices, including soap, from a newly led sales push.

More Erects Building and Filling Station on Wilbarger

County Commissioners meet this week to canvass results from the Hareold precinct bond election held February 7 and discuss appointment of row overseers for the year. Water and Light Lines Extended Citywide

The City water and light department extends commercial lines to the residence district and builds an eight inch water main to the new high school on West Yamparika Street. Light lines reach South Main West Wilburger and Mas Yamparika serving about 300 new patrons. Delays due to material shortages end after the first of the week. Lieutenant J T Jones inspector for the 42nd Infantry Texas National Guard says Vernon will reorganize the local company and prepare for the 1924 era.
