Poultry experts arrive tomorrow for school here

The traveling Poultry Special will reach Vernon tomorrow night and host a free poultry school Thursday. It will be open to boys, girls, and adults with lectures and demonstrations on raising, caring for, and marketing poultry. The exhibit car will showcase industry stages and posters prize winners will be announced.

Tuts Launch New Campaign

The King Tut Club of Vernon plans a Thursday dinner with ticket sales this afternoon and tomorrow. President R B Gibson urges full attendance and bringing new members. The 1924 campaign will be outlined, with many matters of interest to the entire membership. A pleasant program and a splendid meal are promised.

Vernon Poultry Shipment From Vernon to New York

The Vernon Poultry and Es Company plans to ship a car of chickens and turkeys from Vernon via the Frisco to New York City. J. T. Love is loading the car for transport, with the truck expected to depart yesterday and reach Oklahoma if remaining birds cannot fill the car.

Vernon High School track team trains daily under Coach Galbraith for a spring district meet. Vernon high quintet defeated Harrold by a score of 20 to 10 on home court in a clean, hard fought game. It marked Vernon’s best form this season and tied the series with Harrold at two wins apiece in their four game dual, with both teams longstanding district rivals.

Cooperation urged at Elliott meeting February sixteenth

More than one hundred farmers attended the Texas Wheat and Cotton Growers Association open meeting in Elliott. Judge L Gough of Amarillo and Alfred J Crow of Colorado spoke urging cooperative marketing as the best way to maximize prices, reduce banker loans, and stabilize farm economics. Crow compared farming to organized labor and big industry, calling for farmer organization and neighborly cooperation. South Vernon Wells Start Drilling Near Vernon

South Vernon Oil Company began a new hole 150 feet from Stephens No 1 on the Stephens lease eight miles south of Vernon as Star rig moved on. Aiming for a 20 barrel output from a shallow sand, the Standard rig is ready to drill 8000 feet west of Stephens No 1 to test a water well source and limestone deeper plan. Officials expect rapid development and possible pipe line bids to carry output in a few weeks.

John B. Waller of this city, a Phillips University student in Enid, China, was given charge of publicity for the school of expression and the dramatic department. Dr Mims Ills Pulpit Filled by Dr Moore At First Churches

Open Forum Set by Vernon Chamber of Commerce

The Vernon Chamber of Commerce announces four open forum meetings this year with public access. Celvin B. Brown of the U S Chamber of Commerce will speak at Vernon on February 20 at noon, inviting all interested residents of Vernon and Withareer county to attend for a ticket. Brown, a top national speaker on commercial matters, will also speak in Viedtra before arriving here and later in Fort Worth and Dallas.

Long Pursuit Is Successful in 1921 Theft Indictment

Sheriff J. M. Keesee brought back from Pipton Oliv. I. J. McCafferty, sought by Sheriff Edwoodeon on a grand jury indictment for theft exceeding 340. McCafferty, eluding officers previously, was spotted at Tipton recently and Deput y Reeser pursued him. Indictment followed Tolbert robbery of automobile supplies.

Four towns Quanah Childress Memphis and Vernon agreed on Wilbarger County fair dates for September with Quanah hosting September 24 to 27 and other towns assigning dates. Intercity meetings and mutual support for a stronger Green Belt initiative were decided, aiming for better contracts and fairs.

Veteran and Confederate veteran Mark Linton dies at 88

Mark Hi Linton 88 a Confederate veteran and longtime resident of the county died at his Cumberland Street home after months of illness. Funeral services were held at his home by Rev. W W Adams. interment in East View cemetery under Masonic lodge auspices. Survived by widow and eleven children and stepchildren, with roots in Tennessee and Kaufman County.

Local Fire Boys Receive Checks in Vernon Fire Aid

After a February 4 town blaze, Vernon firemen received bin checks of 1446 each, Chillicothe and Miedra departments got 25 apiece, with the rest funneled to the local fire department treasury. Merchants funded the fund to cover the firemen’s clothing needs and logs.

Vernon cattle dealers are shipping early this year with reports from the Fort Worth and Denver agent indicating five car loads departed last week.

East Side Road Bond Election Ordered in Wilbarger County

The County Commissioners held a regular session and ordered a March 22 election on a 150000 road bond in the East Vernon Oklavinian Mack district. If approved the bond would pave Highway No 5 from Vernon to the Wichita County line and extend paving along No 28 toward Elliott, creating a continuous east Wilbarger County paved network toward Fort Worth.
