Lost purse recovered after mislaid near Vernon
Paducah man Castlebury found a cash pocketbook weeks after it disappeared near Vernon. It contained five twenty dollar bills and a five dollar denomination. Sheriff Ish traced the purse to J. R. Bridges of Paducah, who reported losing money while returning from Wichita County oil fields. The owner was identified and the purse returned, avoiding a theft claim.

Postal service changes cut Odell to Downs route
Effective Friday the panel service to the Downs postoffice from Odell was discontinued and that office closed. Patrons in that section will receive mail on route No. b out of Odell pending decision by authorities in Washington on recommendation from Vernon postal officials to establish a rove to that counter from Vernon. Assistant Postmaster Frank Mann says this is the logical approach and believes permission will be granted to handle mail from Vernon.

White Brothers Discharged From Army Service
Luther and Clint White sons of Me and Mrs J F White of White City have been discharged from army service. Luther served nine months in the Sth brigade of the Marines at Brest France but saw no front line action. Clint served in the motor transport corps with the 422nd supply train and likewise did not reach the front before the armistice. Luther arrived home Sunday and was due to come in Thursday.

Sunday Storm Wreaks Havoc Across Vernon Area
A severe wind and electrical storm Sunday afternoon disabled about 150 telephones, burned 25 transformers, and damaged poles and wires across Vernon. Chickens and fowl were killed, homes damaged, and trees stripped of fruit. Mrs Coffee suffered a shock but was unharmed. Rain followed, aiding farmers with moisture for crops and delaying harvest in several counties.

Returns Home From Hospital
Charles Blackwood is at home from Fort Worth where he has been confined in a hospital undergoing treatment of his eye. He was confined about three weeks. The eye was lacerated when a bottle at the local bottling works broke and glass struck it. Physicians feared removal of the eyeball. This has proved unnecessary though sight remains destroyed.
