Ban on Riding on Sidewalk Citywide
City Marshal Ro H. Bratton enforces a ban on bicycle riding on sidewalks. He says both men and boys are guilty and riders endanger life and limb after two incidents at North Main and Pease streets left one person badly hurt. He notes adults riding on sidewalks set a bad example for youths and insists sidewalks must be clear for safety.

A Denver wrecking outfit burned after upsetting while lifting a Pullman car on a Fort Worth & Denver Railway wreck near the Pease river. Traffic halted for hours as crews fought the fire. no injuries reported. The engine, a 200 light freight type, will be rebuilt in Fort Worth after being taken from Vernon.

Duroc Pig Weighs 235 Pounds More in Six Months
Clay Crabtree plans to win one of three prizes at the County Fair with his nine month old Duroc, which has grown to 320 pounds and is on track to reach 40 pounds more before judging. Booty Rogers Killed in Frederick Oklahoma
Dorcus Rogers, known as Hooty, a special night policeman, was killed in a revolver duel with John C Parker in Frederick Oklahoma early Sunday. The two had argued at the opera house earlier. Parker shot Rogers in the rear of Parker’s store and was wounded in the body. Services were held Sunday afternoon attended by Homer Rogers of Vernon, a cousin. Rogers, born in Vernon, had recently returned from army service.

Andrew Carnegie, steel magnate and library benefactor, died at Sha trock in Lenox after a three day illness from pneumonia. He was 83. The U S flag at half mast flew over the local Carnegie Library, a gift from the philanthropist.
