Lubbock was chosen as the site for the Texas Technological College by the locating board after visits to Vernon Fort Worth and other towns. The board unanimously designated Lubbock County Texas as the official location and informed Tubbocek by telegram of the decision.
In Vernon Ohio a hush falls as Warren G Harding lies in state. Taps ring from bugles across the town while Mayor Mason closes businesses for a citywide hour of mourning ordered by President Coolidge’s proclamation. The Vernon Concert Band performs on the square before a program ending with Taps.
Wilbarger County officials shuffled offices on moving day at the courthouse. S K Porterfield and W C Alderman swapped rooms on the second floor while John Nabers moved to a former county engineer space. James V Lenk and John A Storey will occupy Porterfield’s vacated room as Mrs C M Blair renovates the tax collector’s quarters.
Frisco trains nationwide stopped from 2 to 2 05 this afternoon as all work ceased in tribute to the late President Harding whose funeral was held today. Section hands baggage clerks ticket agents and other employees joined in silent tribute.
W L Budd and Mrs Blanche Watson, both of Vernon, married at 9 o'clock Tuesday night by T J Griffiths, Justice of the Peace, at his West Vernon home. They will live in Vernon. Roy Morrison of Cordell Okla visiting his sister Mrs Harold Parsley. Morrison visited Harry Norwood in Electra this week.
R W Brunson 62 a longtime Chillicothe merchant and Moore Mill and Elevator official was killed yesterday afternoon when a freight train on the Fort Worth and Denver tracks struck him as he crossed to reach his home. Survived by widow, son O A Brunson of Vernon, and two daughters Mrs R B Gibson of Vernon and Mrs T A Davis of Claude. Funeral at 4 30 pm today at Presbyterian church with Rev McMurray in charge. Masonic Lodge to conduct rites.
R L More expands his Vernon collection with a Moe egg cast from a bird once 12 to 14 feet tall. The extinct creature, dating back about 400 years, occupies space alongside 400 North American eggs and a few from abroad. Some eggs were unearthed in Mundagisea sands and are not purchasable, housed in world famous museums.
The Vernon postoffice will close this afternoon from 3 to 4 o'clock in tribute to Warren G Harding. All employees join in the citizenship in honoring the memory of the late executive.

The Woman's Missionary Union of the Wilbarger Pound Baptist Association will convene next Tuesday August 14 and run four days through Friday August 17. J E Prince 74 long time Vernon resident and prominent citizen dies Wednesday afternoon after months of illness. Funeral 4 oclock from Methodist church with Rev M K Little assisted by Rev Finis Cratchfield of Tallis. Interment View cemetery. Prince a Texas native born near Waiahachie and first white child born in Mitts county. Married Eddie Burton of Crockett fifty years ago. ten children with six surviving. Survivors include E B Prince Waxahachie Ro Prince Electra L J Prince Electra Miller Prince Electra and two daughters Mrs J M Underwood and Mrs W W Cox Vernon. Nine grandchildren and sister Mrs A S Willis Waxahachie. Pallbearers listed. He moved to Vernon in 1880 and was active in the Methodist church and W O W. Numerous flowers.
The Cemetery Association held its regular meeting Tuesday afternoon with vice president Mrs J B Collins presiding in the absence of President Mrs B E Lloyd and secretary Mrs Delia Houssels. Treasurer Mrs A M Hiatt acted as secretary pro tem and treasurer. Work progresses satisfactorily and the cemetery is in splendid condition.

Announcement by Supt. B. L. Doheney states public schools will open September 10, the second Monday, with a large enrollment expected. Officials predict crowded conditions in the high school until the new building is completed.
Reverend J Owen conducting revival services at Guyer received a letter of appreciation from 24 Khansmen led by a spokesman from Electra. The visitors delivered a short talk and attended the sermon this week.
Mrs. S and L Mallow and daughter Miss Johnnie Mallow departed Wednesday morning to visit Mrs Mallow's sister in Oklahoma.
Examinations will be held at the High School in this city on August 17 and 18 for teachers seeking new certificates or to advance existing ones. This last exam allows teachers to build on their credentials, and school authorities stress the importance for all eligible teachers to participate.
The Wilburger Federation of Women’s clubs met at the library to discuss community week arrangements. Delegates reported each club would submit programs while Judge J. Renee, city education board chair, spoke on the new High School building.

Louis Byrd of Wichita Falls visits his mother Mrs M K Byrd traveling with her to Okdaunion where Mrs Byrd meets her mother Mrs I M Smita for a brief visit in the Oklahoma area during a family trip noted in local society.
