The Uintah School District Board adopts a new travel policy in a West Junior High meeting held on Sent. 22. The policy, effective immediately, replaces the prior approach that faced months of criticism from a citizen group which alleged unethical and illegal elements.
Local leaders praise robust building as new shops rise on West Highway 40 including Dally-Up Western Wear and a Yellow Front store. Projects across Vernal from the airport runway to the Red Fleet Dam advance, with a two to three year dam program and a 2 million hospital planned next year. The school district adopts a travel policy and approves Dr. Reid to attend a Colorado Springs convention for 90 dollars while discussing drop-out factors.
After a public hearing led by Donnell Wardle, Vernal City Council reclassified property at about 700 South on 1500 West from RA-1 to R-2, enabling residential use up to four-plexes. The council also listed development priorities including the Upper Maeser Water Storage Tank and water system expansions.
Vernal Utah state museum director Michael L Perry received the Outstanding Public Service Award from the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce for the third quarter. Rita Kier presented a plaque and plush dinosaur as recognition for Perry’s work including securing the Porter Wingsaurs display. Perry, administrator since 1973, credited the award to the museum’s growth and his efforts to create the dinosaur garden project west of the museum.
