Uintah School Board held a special meeting on Sept 19 and approved a first reading of a Transportation Reimbursement policy replacing the current travel policy. Horse falls injure Ralph Siddoway during sheep hunt near Lydia Peak
Ralph Siddoway sheep owner and Golden Age Center director was injured when a horse fell on his leg near Baldies and Lydia Peak while searching for missing sheep with Frence Gurr. The horse crashed, left him unconscious for hours before five backpackers helped. He was transported to Uintah County Hospital then to St. Mark's Hospital in Salt Lake City.

Vernal Woman Dies in Roosevelt Crash
Blanch Hatch aged 65 of Vernal was killed when a car she rode in went out of control about 3 miles west of Roosevelt at 1:45 a.m. Friday September 16. Her husband Ralph Hatch 68 and Leland Workman 72, both Vernal residents, were injured. Workman treated at Uintah County Hospital. Hatch hospitalized in Salt Lake City with broken bones and ruptured spleen.

Cow mutilation investigated on Diamond Mountain sighting
Lt Harold Cook and Sgt Ted Freestone investigated a suspected cow mutilation on Diamond Mountain. They accompanied Lynn Siddeway to the Siddeway range where the cow lay in Lansen Draw missing sexual organs and part of an ear, with no signs of a struggle or blood. Dinosaurs arrive in Vernal for new exhibit site
A caravan of fourteen life sized dinosaurs and a woolly mammoth arrived in Vernal after a six truck journey from Orderville. The group drew crowds as the Vernal Junior High band led a Main Street parade to the dinosaur garden and prehistoric nature trail near the estates museum and county library. Dr Elbert Porter, creator of the display, will supervise erection and placement in a lifelike setting. The weather resistant replicas took over 14 years to build and are described as among the world's most remarkable.

Trio detained for burglaries in Vernal
Vernal police detained three suspects after a Sunday night to Monday morning burglary surge. One man was arrested. others remain in custody as suspects. A construction site at 4150 W Hwy 40 reported missing tools near Western Living Inc. A prison parolee residing at the Tiki Motel was linked to the case.
