Local pool offers AAU swimming team for youths
Arnie Anthon, a swimming instructor, seeks 100 more members aged 6 to 18 to form an AAU team. Eligible youths must swim two pool lengths and commit to regular practice and meets. Vernal Youths Escape Injury In High Speed Crash
Two sixteen year olds in Vernal escaped serious injuries after a 1968 Ford ton pickup lost control on a washboard road. The vehicle overturned into a ditch at about 70 mph, struck a culvert and pole, then slid and totaled the truck. Damages were about 2800 dollars. the driver was cited for reckless driving.

Second body found at Flaming Gorge
A male body was found at 1 am on October 2 at Jug Hollow near Lucerne Marina in Flaming Gorge Reservoir. Park Ranger Larry Mullin reported the body lying in sand with lower legs in the water after the water level dropped 52 feet. Authorities had earlier recovered another body on June 12, 1977, identified as one of four fishermen drowned May 22, 1972, with periodic searches continuing for the remaining victims.
