Vernal lifts outdoor watering restrictions and ties new utility hikes to fund needs. The council approved Oct 1 increases including 73 800 annual utility fund rise, 2.00 in city water, sewer 2.23 to 3.00, refuse 2.09 to 2.50, and out of city water 2.00 more. Police seek 20 000 federal grant to build local dispatch facilities.
In Vernal Utah the Utah Natural History Museum prepares for a homecoming of 14 fiberglass dinosaurs along with a woolly mammoth. The life size collection by Professor Elbert Porter moves from Orderville to a new Dinossaur Garden and Prehistoric Nature Trail display after a $130000 purchase by the Utah State Division of Parks and Recreation.
Two unrelated Kenworth tractor trailers on State Highway 44 north of Vernal caused about 65 000 in damages and injuries to drivers A Clay Woods of Idaho Falls and Edward Hodgden of Casper were forced off the road on the Nine Mile grade with brake failure and high speeds around 50 to 65 mph.
A special hospital bond election passed by a large majority with 2196 votes for the 2.5 million general obligation bonds and 321 against. Turnout was about 30 percent, with Naples and Davis districts showing the largest opposition. Approval clears plans for a new 36 bed hospital construction bid date.
The event combines a parade and circus at Uintah County Fairgrounds on Saturday September 17 with live elephants and two 90 minute shows at 3 PM and 7 PM. First prize in the parade is a $50 gift certificate, second $25. Pre sale tickets are available at local stores and offices for cheaper admission. Proceeds benefit Kiwanis Community Service activities.
