Auto Tractor Crash Kills Duchesne County Farmer
Funeral services were held for Melvin J. Benson a 76 year old Duchesne County farmer killed Thursday in a car tractor collision. He was driving a tractor on Utah Highway B7 when struck from behind at about 7 am by a car driven by Mrs. Howard Gilbert of Roosevelt. The tractor continued 500 feet hitting a utility pole. Trooper Leonard Fort of the Utah Highway Patrol said the tractor was not unhit. Gilbert said she was blinded by oncoming lights and did not see the slow vehicle. Benson’s brother Archile was nearby and looked toward the tractor as the crash occurred. The victim had been returning from a field work when the incident happened.

Man Charged with Manslaughter in Randlett Fight
Serawop, a 33 year old from Randlett, appeared before a U S commissioner in Salt Lake City and was charged with voluntary manslaughter after a fist fight outside Randlett. Bail set at 10,000. remanded to Salt Lake County jail. Victim Charles Shavanesux died. autopsy planned in Frova with funeral in Roosevelt. Both defendants were Uintah Ouray residents. FBI described the incident as investigated by federal and Ute tribal officers.
