Funeral for Byron Eaton Draws Immense Vernal Crowd
A vast audience gathers at Vernal Second Ward chapel for the funeral of Byron Af Eaton who died after being crushed between a tractor and a wall while supervising work at Uintah High School grounds. Survived by widow, daughters, grandchildren, two sisters and seven brothers, with many relatives from Utah present. Eaton, born 1884 in Vernal, Utah, held church leadership roles and worked on road paving projects. The service was conducted under the Second Ward bishopric with George Wilkins presiding.

The County Fair pageant committee led by Misses Stella Richards Mary Winder and Iona Woolley plans The Spirit of the Uintah Basin for the fairs second night. Woolley delays school to assist and a team including Mrs May Henderson Mrs Mary Manwaring Mrs Sarah Bingham Mrs Marion Shaffer and Mrs Charles DeMolly directs costuming and work. Musical director H Walter Woolley and lighting chiefs Leo C Thorne Roy Coupe organize stage and decor under manager A Theodore Johnson. About 200 participants from communities and Whiterocks Indian children prepare for an open air spectacular covering the pageant segments.

Sheriff Richardson Captures Large Still on Farm Creek Ranch
Sheriff L Richardson seized a 60 gallon still on Farm Creek Ranch near Elkhorn ranger station White Rocks. He found two barrels of mash and three 60 gallon barrels partly filled, with another mash barrel poured on the ground. Alma Boren leased the place and may be arrested later.

Friends report Mrs William Wittbeck is greatly improved after a serious illness. A phone message from Salt Lake City to Mrs William E Witbeck Jr said she was better. Mr Witbeck was in Leadville when the illness worsened and the family was telegraphed for. Vern Shimmin traveled to join them while Mrs Pearl Shimmin Snyder rode from Denver by train. William E Jr remains in Kansas City with sheep.

Salesmen Plunge In Studebaker At Half Way Bridge
Two salesmen driving from Vernal to Salt Lake City in a Studebaker coupe with California plates plunged over the Half Way Hollow bridge after misjudging a sharp turn. The car skidded down a 10 foot drop, hit a boulder on the sand bar, slid 8 feet into the gulch below, but both men escaped serious injury. The vehicle suffered major damage including bent axle and damaged chassis. A white railing and improved protection are urged to prevent future accidents at this dangerous curve.

Construction on Soldier Monument Base Started Last Week
The Uintah county World War veterans monument base begins with a 14 inch circular base topped by an 18 inch octagonal subbase. An octagonal podaster base rises four and a half feet, bearing bronze tablets for 350 local soldiers and data, supporting the eight foot Doughboy statue. Engineer Nile Hughes drew the plans, and cement was donated by Leslie Ashton Hardware.

Leases Granted and Deep Test Well Assured at Gusher
Thirteen Moffat farmers pooling fourteen hundred acres have leased gas rights to J W Weaver of Edgewater Colorado. Weaver will return with a geologist to select a drilling site. Drilling must start by June 1 1925 and the first test well will reach six thousand feet if paying sands are found before that depth.

Man Drives Essex Over Monument Base Sunday Night
A. A. Hatch and grandson Thorst Hatch escaped injury when a car rammed the freshly built monument base in the square. The vehicle traveled about fifty miles per hour almost struck the base, then airborne it landed twenty feet away with a demolished left front wheel. Hatch was fined by Justice Carter. monument suffered little damage.

Uintah County Residents Face Tax Relief This Year
Uintah County will pay about twenty one thousand dollars less in taxes this year after a report to the state board of equalization by auditor Wilson Murray. The county valuation stands at 65 724 371 with 1924 receipts estimated at 179 276 21 and 200 727 08 last year.
