Vernal City Builds First Water Works System

Lereineco Bythe and Mitchell began a cabin store on the corner later occupied by W P Coltharp and Go Store as Vernal moves to a public water supply. A 1907 survey and 1909 bond election led to a $12 000 start, a $24 500 total program, and a 1910 contract to David C Dunbar for a complete wooden pipe system. Construction ran June to August with many workers, a pipe shortage, and a job rolling out under foreman J P Trim. The project delivers mains and service lines to schools, residences, and central town, with water now feeding the old canal area and Johnsons null. The system promises to double Vernal's population in five years.
