The Plenty District Court with Judge Elias Hangon on the bench closed last Friday after a four day term. Seven ring divorce cases were granted. Liddy May Alger was granted divorce from E Pierce Alger and custody of Marion Lee Alger with $26 monthly alimony and attorney fees.

Fire Destroys Swain Undertaking Parlors
A blaze around 1 a m Wednesday leveled the Swain Undertaking Parlor run by Mrs. Hessle Dilman Swain in Var nal. The cement two story building suffered major downstairs losses with caskets destroyed while the upstairs office of H C Hessel remained undamaged. Insurance coverage totaled 2000 on the property. Firefighters' efforts saved parts of the structure. the cause remains undetermined though the rear room near embalming appeared the hottest area.

Wood Shed Fire at Court House Totals Building
Firemen fought a blaze at the court house wood and coal shed Wednesday evening about a half hour after an alarm. The shed burned quickly and the building was a total loss before extinguished. No insurance. Rev. G A Downey left moments earlier. The fire started inside the building.

Mormon Missionary in Japan Safe After Earthquake
Cablegram to President H J Grant reports Louis H Moore missionary from Vernal and the 19 Mormon missionaries in Japan escaped the recent holocaust. A conference near Saporo 800 miles from Tokyo was close to Sept 1 and none of the Elders had reached the affected area when the quake struck.

Busy Uintah school board approves new building and courses
A large Uintah school board session approved a 24 by 32 foot school room and a 20 by 34 foot manual training building at Uintah high with land donated by Superintendent Grogs. The district funded materials and a carpenter. patrons perform haulage and much of the work under supervision. A physics course was added and magazine funds set at 25 dollars. Basement waterproofing by William Hoeft ended a major water issue.

The Vernal Gun and Rifle Club, with the Ashley forest department, will post fingerling trout notices along Untah county streams. Signs from the State Fish and Game Commission warn that trout under seven inches must be returned to water and show a five inch gauge. The club also posts a $25 reward for information on Hungarian wartridges or Chinese pheasants violations and may post a $2 reward for fish laws violations.

Fall cleanup day proclaimed for September 22

Stringham Injures Leg in Saddleback Gun Accident at Baldy Mountain
P C Stringham shot himself in the leg Saturday while securing a hammer on his trousers preparing to move sheep camp gear to Baldy Mountain. The bullet entered near the groin and lodged behind the knee as rescuers reached him after a long night trek.

Hayden Foster Loses Foot After Mower Accident
Hayden Foster of Lapoint lost his foot at the ankle when a sickle bar was engaged while cutting alfalfa. His 13 year old daughter Ruby was driving the horses as the bar clogged. Family and neighbors treated the wound before Foster was transported to Vernal for surgery.

Uintah Basin Turkeys Save Crops in Hard Times
In the Uintah Basin a party led by Thomas Redmond reports turkeys saved hay and alfalfa seed crops after a harsh spring. One grower runs about 1600 birds with many ranches having flocks, aiding grasshopper damaged forage. Turkeys are blamed for three crops as harvests continue and holiday markets approach.
