Young and Co. win grading and hard surfacing for six miles from Vernal to beyond the High Line canal on the Victory highway. Uintah county will post 3600 to begin work immediately and finish this fall. Federal funding may cover extra costs. paving for the Vernal center to tabernacle block is undecided. A state and federal inspection team, led by Preston G. Peterson, travels to explore a proposed Avintaquin canyon route to Duchesne as part of the federal highway plan.

They spent the afternoon wrestling with Frank Bassett’s request to create a county road along the west line of C. B. Bartlett’s farm, ultimately advising the parties to settle among themselves. Bartlett argues the road would force fence-building and is not warranted by travel. he will keep the private road open for Bassett and others.

Work Commenced on Tunnel at Moffat Site
First actual work on the Moffat tunnel began August 28 with western portal preparation one mile from Irving station. A 40 foot plus cut into the mountain opens the way for boring through solid rock. Jury Sustains Court In Bert McKee Case
A jury in the district court sustained the justice court in the case State of Utah v Bert McKee. McKee was found guilty of possessing liquor after appealing a $50 fine from Justice Irvin Eaton. The jury, including foreman C A Thompson and members from Lapoint and nearby towns, asked for leniency and was the term’s only jury proceeding.

W. T. Nichols Buried Friday At Maeser
Funeral services for Valentine Taylor Nichols were held Friday at 10 a m in Maeser with Bishop Sylvanus Collett presiding. Interment followed in Maeser cemetery. Nichols born February 18 1850 in Flat Gap Kentucky married Mary Emily Amanda Harris in 1876. He came to Utah in 1962 with his family and resided in Maeser. He died after a fall from an apricot tree at a Murray home.
