Upper Basin Governors Seek More River Funds

Utah and New Mexico governors joined with Senator Watkins and Representative Dawson in Washington to lobby White House officials for an extra 46 million dollars for the Upper Colorado River Storage Project. They urged boosting the fiscal 1959 Interior budget to 746 million, including 14 million for Flaming Gorge Dam and 1.2 million to begin the Vernal unit Steinaker Draw, with Wyoming and Colorado leaders backing the plea for at least 75 million. The effort followed a regional plea to fund the project amid ongoing state-level crime notes in Vernal where thieves caused about 400 dollars in damage and broke into several rooms.
