Storms Dampen Deer Season Opener Across Regions

Opening weekend hunting yielded patchy results as rain and snow hampered activity. In Cock Creek area hunters reported decent success while north of Vernal on Diamond Mountain and Brush Creek areas results were slow. Local dealers note few big deer, with most sightings modest in Ashley Valley.

High School Children's Theatre Opens with Snow White Run

The Children's Theatre of Uintah High School opened the season with seven performances of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs drawing over 2,500 students. Plans for Tom Sawyer in late April 1958 were announced, with ten schools attending the Snow White presentations. Geral Wilde of the UNS faculty organized and will direct the theatre, the first in the Prove area in years.

Anti Fluoridation Meeting Planned for Vernal City

The Anti Fluoridation Committee urges all voters of Vernal City to attend a mass meeting Tuesday at 7:30 pm in the Courthouse court room. Chairman Leo Thorne says the session aims to inform the public on Vernal City's water fluoridation issue.

Forest Service Plans Fifteen Timber Sales on Ashley Forest

The Forest Service announces fifteen timber sales on the Ashley National Forest totaling about twelve million board feet. Governor Gilbert B. Poll of Vernal notes most sales will release this winter with many offerings in spring and summer 1950. The program aims to sustain the timber industry and harvest mature timber while ensuring regeneration for future supplies, with locations across North Fork Chance, Trout Creek, East Park, Francis Creek and other sites.

Rites Slated for Kenneth Caldwell Automobile Victim

Funeral services are planned Friday at 11 am in Glines Ward chapel for Kenneth Orsohi Caldwell 21 of Vernal killed in a Sunday automobile accident near Denton Texas. The service will be under Bishop Woodrow White with burial at Fairview Cemetery. Caldwell a Tinker Air Force Base airman died when his car collided with a pickup and struck a bridge abutment. He was born November 18 1985 in Vernal to Orson and Annie Caldwell and a 1954 Uintah High School graduate. He served in the National Guard and Air Force and had hoped for discharge in spring after four years. He was a member of the LDS Church. Survivors include three brothers.

Two-Year Plan For Ashley Forest Roads In Utah

A two year plan outlines access road construction in Ashley National Forest Utah including 145 miles of Whiterocks area roads costing 253 048 and 25 miles of timber access in Dry Fork Canyon, with additional work around Brownie Lake Moon Lake and other sites. The program totals 1 519 536 and spans fiscal years 1958 1959 with several contracts awarded or planned.
