Arthur Watkins a former Vernal resident and father of Sen. Arthur W. Watkins turned 90 last Friday An open house Sunday at his daughter Avis Chisam s home in Burbank California marked the occasion Watkins born October 22 1864 in Provo lived in Midway Wasatch County before helping pioneer the Vernal area in 1886 After retiring in 1926 he and his wife Emily Adelia Gerber Watkins moved to California Mrs Watkins died in 1947 Watkins parents were John and Harriet Steele Watkins His father was a handcart pioneer who came to Utah in the 19th century
