Uintah County voters head to the polls next Tuesday to choose sixteen public officials and to vote on four referenda involving state senate districts and the future of local colleges. County Paves 20 Miles of Roads This Summer
Henry Warknuts reports Lay dah County asphalt paving project progressed from July 5 to September 20. Roads paved include Dey Park Vernal Airport to Highway 40 and South Vernal Avenue among others totaling about 20 miles and 18 000 yards processed. 2 500 yards sold to Vernal City Uintah School District and individuals.

55 Uranium Claims Sold for 52000 By 2 Maeser Men
Fifty-five uranium mining claims in northwest Moffatt County Colorado were sold to four Indiana buyers for 2000 by three local men and a Golden Colorado partner. The sellers Rulon Ashby Owen Hacking and Fred L Bradshaw receive royalties and the buyers form Vermillion Creek Mining and Exploration Company. Core drilling will start soon as tunneling continues on the existing claims. The trio also consider options on an additional 66 claims in the same area.

Mother of Two Vernal Men Dies in Denver
Mrs. Bessie Failing Gibbs 87 of Denver died at home Sunday. She was mother of Calvin and Paul D Gibbs of Vernal and had lived in Bailey Shawnee Oak Creek Maybell Vernal Roosevelt before moving to Denver. Funeral Friday at 1 pm in the Roosevelt LDS Chapel with burial in Roosevelt City Cemetery. Survivors include three sons Milton E Gibbs and four daughters Lucille Irene Mary Dorothy and others, plus twenty two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Signal Exploration Inc of Casper will drill a 6000 foot test of the Weber sand at Elk Springs. The project, ordered by D B Huttaball of San Francisco, comes with equipment moving in and aims to reach results within ten days. The site lies in NE Sec SW, two miles east of Elk Springs near the Continental oil field. Huttaball owns about 2400 acres and recently bought the Scorup ranch in Moab, targeting mineral and uranium development.
