Tribe Denies Liquor and Gambling Proposals

The Ute Indian Tribe will not establish gambling or liquor-by-the-drink at Bottle Mellow Resort. The denial was issued Tuesday by Myron Accuttroop, a Ute Business Committee member, via a statement.

Voters must register by November 1 to vote in the mayor and council races. County Clerk registration closes October 28, ten days before the election, with agents open 8 am to 8 pm through November 4. Uintah Basin Receives $45,000 EDA Planning Grant

The Uintah Basin Association of Government has been awarded a $45,000 EDA planning grant for the Uintah Basin Economic Development District. UBAG director Clinton Harrison says the funds will be used to plan energy development impact and boost employment opportunities, especially in Duchesne County where unemployment is highest.

State school board begins Uintah audit a bid to verify funds use

The Utah State Board of Education started an audit of Uintah School District on October 19 to test allegations of public funds misuse. Superintendent Walter Talbot assigned the School Finance Services office to lead the review with Dr. Arthur Bishop coordinating. Wayne Glaus and a state auditor will continue in Vernal next week with local district officials and accounting firms. The team aims for an objective, thorough investigation and cooperation has been strong.

Hunters Die of Heart Attacks During Uintah Deer Hunt

Uintah County sheriff reports two hunter fatalities from heart attacks during a deer hunt. Earl Howard Erwin, 58, San Diego California, and Austin Black, 49, Detroit Michigan, died at altitude after hunting with companions.

Six candidates for Vernal City office spoke at a Commerce directors meeting Tuesday noon outlining goals and views. Pair Held For Kidnapping Assault In Utah Case

Two Vernal men Luthey Cook 25 and Charles Irwin Alexander 19 were arrested after allegedly abducting a 16 year old girl outside Union High School Roosevelt. They are charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault. Investigations were ongoing by Roosevelt City Police Uintah County Sheriff’s Department and allied agencies.
