Death of Utahs oldest Ute Unca Sam in Whiterocks
Unca Sam, Utahs oldest Indian, died at his Whiterocks home. He was said to be over 100, with some claiming he saw beyond 125 years. A quiet Ute who spoke only Ute, he lived on the Uintah Reservation since 1881 after Meeker uprising. His funeral followed Indian custom, with personal possessions buried with him and his horse shot near the grave. His wife had died years earlier.

Katie Pitt dies, former Mrs Lorenzo Pitt, aged 76, near Duchesne. Funeral Wednesday with Bishopric leadership, a mixed quartet, violin solo, and interment at Rock Polit Cemetery. Lions to hold pheasant hunt dinner November 9
The Vertia Lions Club held a regular luncheon at Ulin tah high school where hunting partners were drawn for the annual pheasant hunt during the season November 6 to 11. Each pair of Lions will provide ten pheasants for the banquet at the high school on November 9. Vic Stringham announced the Sugar House club charter banquet will be held at the Hotel Utah in Salt Lake to induct the new club into Lions. A number of Vernal Lions will attend the banquet to promote the Onto Vernal Movement for the convention next summer. A new constitution and bylaws were adopted by unanimous vote. Pheasant hunting teams were paired off as listed.

Wagon Missionary Dies Sudden in Vernal Tuesday
Ned R Loutzenhelser, a Wagon Missionary, died suddenly Tuesday evening in Vernal after a day of door to door gospel work. Born in Canton, Ohio, he had been with the mission for ten years and recently rejoined. The body was found at the Ashton Service station and will be shipped to Canton for burial.

For two months government workers under the forest department have photographed Ashley National Forest to produce maps. An aircraft chartered from a Denver firm flown by KH L Graves and photographed by John Mytys captured high altitude images to study ground features, with clouds a key obstacle. About half the job is done and weather will decide if work continues this fall.
