Forest Service Seeding Three Range Restorations in Uintah Basin

Forest Service launches three large reseeding projects on Ashley National Forest this fall led by Dean Rowland. About 930 acres on Brush Creek Mountain and 600 acres in Dry Gulch plus 100 acres in Sowers Canyon will be seeded with a mix of grasses after plowing and burning sagebrush, with a behind-plow drill performing drilling in one pass. Over 600 and 900 acres will be sprayed next spring to kill sagebrush and weeds, increasing forage production. Sowers Canyon will test five treatment plots to identify the best method for eradicating rabbit brush while protecting grass establishment before grazing is allowed. Red water service blocks will be built to distribute cattle and protect range. effort aims to ease overstock strain and improve Uintah Basin watersheds.

Ashley Stake Conference This Weekend Aims High Visit

Ashley Stake conference hosts Wishop Carl Buehner and Henry Tempest this weekend. Sessions begin Saturday at 6:30 pm at the Internal First Ward chapel with a missionary meeting and attendance urged for stake and ward leaders. Army Engineers Study Flood Damage I To Develop River Bottom Dike System

Army Engineers from the US Army Engineer Corps surveyed Uintah County flood damage caused by the Green River overflow last June. The study aims to assess feasibility for a dike system to protect river bottom farmers from future floods. Uintah County USDA Disaster Committee members aided the survey including Uintah County Commissioner Orville Swain and ASC chair Wayne Pickup.
