Lakes of Uintah County Stocked With Bass and Perch

Uintah County waters receive black bass and perch for the first time. Environ tests by Fred Foster and Arthur Meacham approved sites in Pelican Lake Pot Creek Lake and a Vernal area lake. Twenty five thousand rainbow trout and fifteen thousand native trout roe were also planted in Brush Creek and Shiey Creek.

Superintendent Frank Hart and his wife from San Francisco attended a teachers convention on Friday and Saturday morning. Hart spoke about the tax system and the pending amendment. The week involved school visits to Weber East and West highs, Logan high, Toople, and Provo high. Teachers found the institute worthwhile and left with useful plans.

Services Held for Thomas and Dircuell in Vernal

Funeral services were held in Vernal First Ward chapel for Thomas E Bickel of Salt Lake City and Vernal with Bishop James H Wallis in charge. Interment followed in Vernal Cemetery. Born August 12 1836 in Park City he lived in Vernal as a boy then moved to Salt Lake City and died October 20 from acute indigestion. He was known for a strong voice and radio singing and touring with the Pantages circuit and Brandon Opera. He survived by his wife and a young son and sisters and brothers in Utah and Roosevelt Sr. and Jr. continuous.

High School Dramatic Class Stages Real Family Affair

Uintah high School hosts a student dramatic class staging Family Affair on Friday November 7 and Saturday November 8. The cast includes Marie Thurber played by Lorna Soldoway Bernard by Phil Martin Wilson Duke by Tommy and Judge Wilson by Neldon Calder with Eunica Smith as the wife and Thurber’s son Willie. Guyman directs with new stage settings funded by department entertainment proceeds.

Vernal Road bid movement gains county and city support

Wilson Murray, HH B Calder, W Henderson, and James H Wallis were elected at a meeting of Uintah county and Vernal officials and business leaders to attend a convention at Steamboat Springs on Friday October 24. They will consider building a road from Craig to Vernal with federal funds next month. Delegates will then go to Denver for a Colorado highway commission meeting on Monday October 37. The group aims to express Uintah county appreciation to Colorado while not committing to any movement conflicting with a letter from H Blood.

Parent Teacher Meeting Held by Bishop Calder

The meeting Monday October 20 featured Bishop H Calder presiding Frank Postma performing two cornet solos Prayer led by Wallace Calder and talks by Noble on teacher parent issues Representative JC Hacking spoke on a tax amendment Colton urged adoption and the motion passed unanimously Refreshments were served by the domestic sciences department under Miss Calder supervision
