State officers led a large Basin meeting in Roosevelt with Legion and Auxiliary posts from Roosevelt Duchesne Myton and Vernal. The event featured installations, speeches urging community leadership and patriotism, a communal luncheon, a Victory Park dance, and honors for Commander Campbell and Mrs Reef.

Bishop Caldwell Dies After Liver Infection in Maeser

Funeral held Sunday at 1 pm in the ward chapel for Bishop Thomas J Caldwell one of Ashley Valley pioneers who died Friday morning October 24 at his home after a month long illness. The service featured floral displays mixed quartet singing and eulogies by William H Siddoway Fred Wall Ernest Eston Driver E Smith and others. Burial followed at Maeser cemetery with grave dedication by Fuller Remington.

Clella Merkley Succumbs After Ruptured Appendix Operation

Clella Merkley a ten year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Morgan Merkley died Friday morning October 24 at Verna hospital after a serious operation for a ruptured appendix. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 pm in the ward chapel with classmates, relatives, and Maeser School personnel attending. Interment followed at Maeser cemetery.

Carbon Football Triumph Over Uintah In Vernal Classic

In Vernal on October 24 a record crowd watched Carbon defeat Uintah 25 0 at Uintah Field. Carbon scored early and dominated the first half as Uintah struggled to mount points. Absalam Moroni Hall known as Ab Hall of Taber Alberta died Sunday October 26 after a bout with double pneumonia. He was 41, born Dry Fork Alaska area son of Ott and Eliza Hall. Survived by his wife Russ Myrtle Jane Rawson and eleven children, plus brothers Ottie and Dave Nall, sisters Dee Nall and Mrs Favorite Dyers, and other relatives in Taber Oakland and nearby towns. Funeral services were held in Taber on Tuesday afternoon.
