Pioneer Maeser Merchant William Rudge Dead at 63

Maeser resident and prominent craftsman William Rudge died Monday October 18 at 6 30 am at his Maeser home after a paralytic stroke the well known former blacksmith and Maeser mercant operated the Maeser store for eight years and is survived by his wife Sarah L Austin Rudge. Funeral services are set for Friday at two o clock in the Maeser ward chapel.

Mrs Ana Ashton entertained the Twentieth Century club with a prettily appointed bridge party Tuesday afternoon at her home. The rooms were beautifully decorated with fall flowers and chrysanthemums. Four tables centerpieces featured bows of pansies. Mrs Lynn Strong earned high honors. A dainty lunch was served by the hostess at the close.

Heber City Stockman Introduces New Utah Sheep Type

Heber City stockman ships 100 head of Reinnelettea sheep from Canada to Utah. W Harvey of Heber City, president of the Utah State Woolgrowers, promotes two new breeds in the intermountain region, including the Romnelette cross which aims for dual purpose wool and lamb meat. The shipment came from Mr Harvey’s Alberta ranch. sheep were displayed at Salt Lake Union stockyards. Other breeders note interest but the new type has not yet reached major industry status.

Freight Train Kills Buck Deer Near Elko Tunnel

A Western Pacific freight train heading east from Wendover struck and killed a buck deer at the Jasper tunnel entrance on the Tobar side near Elko Nevada. The accident occurred at daybreak Tuesday as the engine emerged from the tunnel causing the deer to be struck and die instantly. The train could not stop in time due to the steep grade. Tribune reports the event.

Uintah Agency Chief F A Grosa Transferred to Tulalip

Superintendent F A Grosa of the Uintah and Ouray Indian Agency at Fort Duchesne has been transferred to a reservation in Tulalip Washington. Grosa, who assumed charge after A E Kneale left for Shiprock New Mexico, earned many friends in the basin and was active as an officer of the TLB TFC held annually at Fort Duchesne.

Vernal Business Men Invited to Dine With Grand Junction

Vernal business leaders were invited to dine with Grand Junction merchants on October 28. A large caravan was expected to travel from Vernal to visit Colorado and attend the banquet. T G Alexander and Benj P Kelly coordinated plans during their Grand Junction visit. Alexander announced a freight venture linking Vernal with Grand Junction via Uintah Railway, promising a 90 cent rate, with Vernal as freight hub and a truck route to Price.

Impressive Funeral Services Held For Cosie Cooper

Impressive funeral services were held last Friday at the Second Ward chapel for Cosie Cooper who died suddenly the previous Wednesday. Bishop Calder presided with special music by a quartet and remarks by John Stagg Ernest Eaton and Walter Worsley. Burial followed at Vernal cemetery with city officials in attendance.
