Congressional candidate Cosie Louise Groper and Bergeson spoke in Vernal about rail and road issues. The article notes Miss Misa Cooper’s death at age 15 after a throated choking incident in Uintah Basin and details community group memberships and funeral plans.
Border Petroleum with headquarters in Lake City spudded a well seven miles west of Vernal on L Hijan permit. An Armstrong steel rig drills a 1045 inch hole under supervision of F Jr Sur. Estimated oil at 1245 feet. The site lies north of Dog Valley and geologists favor the structure a monoclinal arch. An earlier attempt fourteen years ago produced oil but collapsed due to cave-in and water.
A Lapoint area funeral honors 14 year old William Manford who shot himself while rabbit hunting with family. The service at Lapoint Hall featured Bishop William C Marshall presiding and ward choir led by Mullina Cheepeskers, with notable attendees from Tridell Vernal Mt Home and surrounding areas. Burial followed at the cemetery with graveside dedication by Elder Dolina.
Leo C Thorne and Mrs Charles E Rebold are attending the Utan Conference of Congregational churches in Provo this week. Mr Sebalda will deliver two addresses on Women in Mexico and The Religious Situation in Mexico.
The State Fish and Game Department announces a ten day deer season from October 24 to October 30. Hunting on game preserves is banned and ducks with two or more points may be shot. Doe hunting is prohibited and law enforcement will be strict. Hunters are told to keep deer heads as evidence of sex. Don’t forget the red cap.
State road engineer Ira q of Drowning completed terms with CD Craft of a government operated star route for the pair of road equipment. Tractors graders and similar gear from Carbon Emery counties and the Uintah basin may be moved to Price for repair after communications between Governor Dern Brown and the Post Office Department in Washington DC.
Uintah High School Juniors Farm Bureau team of Kari Merrell Virtus McConkle and Marvin Smith earned third place in the state stock judging contest in Salt Lake City Kari Merrell placed second overall among sixty participants with a 309 score First was Sechervan Lireless 315 and third Irad Casto 905 Granite. About twenty teams from across the state competed in four animal classes.
The infant son of Mr and Mrs Joseph Goes was buried at Tridell after dying of blood poisoning at three weeks old. Born in Vernal where the death occurred the child’s parents recently married in Vernal four years ago. Sympathy extends to the young couple, Joseph Gimnes and his wife who spent much of their life in Tridell.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles DeMossy were noted as visiting Roccevelt on Monday in a brief social item. The report lists their names and the day of the visit, with no further details.
Funeral services for Katherine M Gillman 56 wife of William Gillman were held at the Vernal Second Ward chapel. Interment followed at the Vernal cemetery. Survivors include nine children and nineteen grandchildren with numerous Veral, Pleasant Grove, and Provo relatives attending.
Theodore Cotler of Vernallas earned distinction in mathematics at Utah Agricultural College Logan as the only student to complete a higher mathematics course without prior algebra training. Cotlier joined UAC in fall 1925 after eight years away, passing an intelligence test and earning college credit for work prior to the test. He completed elementary analysis with an A and now studies commerce focusing on advertising.
A shipment of Rainbow trout was delivered to Vernat and split between Brush creek and Ashley creek for planting. About two thousand fish were placed in Brush creek near Hu Dies ranch and two thousand more in Ashley creek near the Atilb Hower and Light company. Ed Oakes accompanied the shipments to both sites.
Uintah Basin apples took first and second prizes in general entries at the state fair. Brow apples grown by the basin swept top awards with first and second prizes in agriculture. Girls and boys clubs won multiple prizes in sewing and demonstration events. The Indian school display from Whiterocks earned praise for art, sewing, and home garden yields.
Senator Reed Smoot spoke at Orpheus hall in Vernal as hundreds gathered for a Republican rally. He touted Republican gains, urged high tariffs on wool, and predicted a national highway and the Uintah basin’s growth with rail and tourism, highlighting federal support for the dinosaur monument.
The Uintah basin turkeys for 1926 are expected to match 1925 levels after two carloads shipped in 1925 at 32 cents per pound. Farmers begin fattening birds for the Thanksgiving market as the season approaches.
Supervisor A G Nord reports a dry season raises fire danger and bark beetle activity in Lake Fork and Dry Gulch areas. A survey is under way with beetle-infested timber burned to prevent spread while grazing and range conditions remain generally normal despite a late dry grazing season.
Vera Sowards of Prevo recently graduated Uintah 2h School and is slated to leave November for a post with LDBD 8B church in Canada. Milag Sowards, daughter of Mr and Mrs Harmon Sowards of Prave, accompanies her family.
Funeral services for Mary Lawanna Swain aged 18 months were held at Vernal Second Ward Chapel. She died after severe burns suffered September 24. She is survived by her parents Frank and Mary Swain and siblings Harold Julia Isabel Gerald Dulmen Glender and Laurna R Swain. Interment followed at Rock Point Cemetery.
William Hodge owner of the Maeser Store suffered a paralytic stroke Monday evening and his condition is described as very critical. The notice lists numerous friends offering prayers and support as the community hopes for his recovery.
Attorney E H Burgess and Ray E Dillman were in district court this week for Ir Versal business as they represented clients and observed proceedings.
