Ralph Siddoway Nominated for Mayor at Mass Meet

Pessimism rules as Deer Hunters Outnumber Deer and a push to protect does grows. The deer hunt opens Oct 22 and runs through Nov 1 while officials warn the population has dropped to about 40 percent of last year. Warden Fred Reynolds reports seeing only 10 deer in the Uinta area this week and fears many hunters will be disappointed.

Ralph Siddeway Vernal sheep man and Uintah county school district president will oppose Dr Joseph L Han sen Vernal physician for mayor in November elections. Siddeway was unanimously nominated at a Vernal citizens meeting called by Mayor B H Stringham with about 100 voters present. Other nominees included Tyrrell R Seager and William Slaugh four year councilmen Charles Linkel treasurer and Warren Mott recorder. Slaugh and Batty incumbents are merchants in Vernal. Seager a physician is with Vernal Clinic and active in Lions and other groups.

Naples culinary water project contract awarded

The Leo Staples Construction Co. of Richfield wins the trench excavation and filling contract for the Naples water project at 15 cents per linear foot for excavation and 3 cents for backfill. Other bids came from Ivan Pollard Construction and W. C. Striegel. Work starts around Oct. 25 with completion in 16 to 45 days.

Services Held for Edwin J. Winder 82

Edwin Joseph Winder 82, longtime Ashley resident since 1901, died after a 10 day illness. Funeral held in Vernal LDS Second Ward chapel conducted by Lynn Murdock. Born 1867 in Millcreek Salt Lake County, he served a England mission, married Ada Calder in 1898, moved to Vernal 1901. He was active in church and taught school, farmed, and served as stake missionary.

Stake Conference Planned for Nov 5 and 6

The Utah stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announces a two day stake conference at the stake center and tabernacle on November 5 and 6. Priesthood leadership meeting is set for Saturday at 6.30 p.m. followed by welfare films at 8 p.m. Sunday sessions occur at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Weather notes report 1.10 inches of precipitation from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Open cut gilsonite plant eyed for large scale processing

The American Gilsonite Co reports a six week test at its Bonanza near Vernal section plant as engineers explore turning gilsonite into a high grade crude oil by mixing with oil and heating. If successful a huge plant may be built to process gilsonite on a large scale at Eureka Boranza area with shipments to Craig and rail storage in large bins and sacks.

Rural School Standards Criticized At National Conference

Vernal Chamber Pushes Echo Park Dam Cooperation
