C of C Backs Improved Basin Mail Service Plan

Over 40 Vernal businessmen gathered at the Chamber of Commerce banquet in the Commercial Hotel. President Charles DeMolsy Jr outlined the need for club reorganization and funds to meet obligations and support new work. Speakers urged action to sustain C of C efforts, with strong support for a one day mail service from Salt Lake City to Vernal and for extending the Star route to Craig, Colorado. A museum fund for the fossil monument was discussed, with a suggested $50,000 for preservation. A monthly noon forum to discuss vital issues was proposed, with music by Elva Eaton, J H Prows, Carl Davis and a quartet.

Parker Speaker At Jensen Rally In Provo Region

George P. Parker of Provo, Republican candidate for the second judgeship of the Fourth District, spoke at a Jensen rally with Will H. Folland and Judge Elias Hansen. Parker urged faster case disposal, simpler procedure, and strong public support for law enforcement against bootlegging. District Attorney M. B. Girl Killed in Open-Car Crash After Dance

Geneva Arrowsmith, 16, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Arrowsmith of Ashley Ward, died instantly when an open car driven by Van Tassel overturned near Ray Searla’s home after a dance in Maeser. Three companions, Truman Miller, Daley Tassel, and Jessie Beddo, escaped injury. Sheriff Lare Richardson noted a broken wheel struck Arrowsmith, causing fatal head injuries.

Paxton Heads Uintah County Teachers Institute

W A Paxton chosen head of U T C E Association as Uintah county wraps up its best teachers institute to date. Democrats Hold First Rally at the Orpheus Hall

The first Democratic rally of the season in Vernal will be tonight at the Orpheus hall. Speakers include Governor candidate George H. Sidewalk Crossings Under Construction and City Plans

At the city council meeting routine items were discussed. Work on street crossings has begun with some already built and repairs planned at asphalt vats. A proposal to extend sidewalks toward the high school was considered but no firm plan set. A trial to band two blocks of water mains on Uintah avenue was approved.

Uintah County Teachers Decide Attendance at U E A Meeting

Uintah county teachers may vote in each school to choose attendance at the Utah Educational Association meeting in Salt Lake City. No school will be held in the district during the days of the conference. Uintah High School and Central Vernal students will be in attendance, while nonparticipants hold regular sessions.

In Chicago a $100000 damages suit claims Nathan Leopold Jr and Richard Loeb mutilated taxi driver Charles Ream after abducting him in a car last November 21. Names of New Health Officers Elected at Utah Public Health Board

At the Utah Public Health association annual meeting on October 9 at the capitol, E. O. Howard resigned as president after eight years. George D. D. Keyser was elected to succeed him. Keyser is president of the A Keyser Company and manager of Utah Paper Box. The board adopted a resolution praising Howard’s service and noting the association’s tuberculosis control progress.
