Funeral Services for Mrs. Hel en Woodard Held in Vernal

The funeral for Mrs. Helen Woodard wife of L H Woodard took place at the Vernal Second ward chapel after she died October 1 1924 following a serious operation. Bishop Hyrum Calder presided with H Walter Woolley delivering the oration on immortality of the soul. Born in Spanish Fork Utah in 1876 she moved to Ashley valley in 1888 and married L H Woodard in 1893. She leaves two daughters Sybil Collifer and Barbara who died young.

Wednesday, Oct. 15, the preliminary hearing for Harris Murray Erne nest Trujillo Nellie Tru jjillo and Elnora Van charged with the Sept 26 murder of Thomas Rhoades was scheduled before Justice N J Hanox. Murderers of Farm Creek rancher safely lodged in county jail

Mkeri Richard son arrived in Vernal and lodged in the county jail with Marrla Murray and Ernest Trujillo, the confessed youthful murderers of Thomas Rhoades. The trio aided by two girls confessed after days of interrogation, detailing the night of December 26 at the old man’s cabin above Whiterocks. The sheriff praised police cooperation. no mob violence occurred as authorities secured confessions and prepared for prosecution.

Grade Lowered At Bridge Over Ashton Draw

Engineers from the state road commission and the U S bureau of public roads inspected the Twist road surfacing. The Ashton draw bridge grade was lowered to align with the road, with guard rails to be installed on five sections, and work by A G Young and company expected to finish early next week.

Commissioners Hold Busy October Meeting on Tax and Road Issues

County commissioners met with County Clerk Wilson Murray to resolve tax disputes on sheep owned by Levi R. Bedily and others, approving a 613.13 compromise for erroneous assessments. They reappraised Uintah County land with County Surveyor Leon P Christensen and allowed use of county plats. The board rejected a bond service proposal by W N Preas, released some cattle property from Howell Kendall tax claims pending affidavits, and ordered road repairs on Route No 2 after mail carrier concerns.

Deep Test Well To Be Sunk In Brown's Park

Producers and Refiners plan a deep test well in Brown's Park Daggett County Utah with seven rigs built in the Clay Basin. A spokesperson, farmer Charles Roller of Bridgeport, reports wells at 3500 feet with no water yet and gas struck at 600 feet. The firm aims to spud a deep tent well between Jesse Ewing canyon and Willow Creek this fall, location regarded as one of the best on the anticline.

Utah alfalfa seed output rises to twenty million pounds

A telegram from the U S Department of Agriculture reported Utah will produce about 19 to 20 million pounds of alfalfa seed this year, with Millard County at 8.5 to 9 million pounds. National yield is forecast over 42 million pounds, about one third higher than last year.

County Treasurer Reports Busy Tax Office Early Oct

Base of Soldier Monument Nearing Completion
