Moon Lake Electric seeks site for 1000MW coal plant

Moon Lake Electric Association presented plans for a 1000 megawatt coal fired plant with 12 candidate sites south of Vernal in Uintah County. The favored site lies east of Bonanza road near Vernal, drawing water from a proposed White River Reservoir and using coal from Rangely Colorado. Mini Mart Burglary Report From Naples Police

The Mini Mart in Naples was burglarized overnight on October 6. Thieves forced a door and stole 20,000 rounds of .22 ammunition, 10 boxes of shotgun shells, about $175 in cash, 12 six packs of beer, and a flashlight. Juvenile suspects are under surveillance. Uintah County Sheriff's Office seeks information on any related activity.

Annual Basin transportation meeting slates at Duchesne

Residents of Daggett, Duchesne and Uintah Counties may share ideas on long range plans at the Uintah Basin Association of Governments Planning District meeting. The Utah Transportation Commission will host the planning session on Wednesday October 19 at 7 30 p m in Duchesne High School auditorium.

GSA eyes Vernal City office project near crossroads

A Sept 28 letter from the General Services Administration informs Vernal that about 11 000 feet of office space is needed in the area with potential for twenty new hires if built. The plan places offices at the northwest corner of Fifth East and Second South streets, with environmental and community impact studies requested. City Manager Grade 1 Nelson replied guiding GSA to consult City Planner Ken Fisher on specifics.

Highway 44 wrecks near Vernal cause $7500 in damages

On Highway 44 between Vernal and Windy Point two accidents injure three men but cause no serious injuries. A head-on crash near Vernal 3.5 miles north involved Gerald E. Jacobson and Jerry Dunn. Jacobson cited for DUI. A second single car rollover near 13 miles north injures Walter Wolbert. speeding cited. Total Utah Highway Patrol-vestigated damages reach $795,216 since January.

Tridell-Lapoint water system assured finance plan set

The State Board of Water Resources agreed Friday to buy 150000 dollars in bonds for a 1138000 dollar water improvement project in the Tridell-Lapoint district. The plan includes a concrete diversion structure a treatment plant with capacity for a full day and a 200000 gallon storage tank plus a 156000 feet pipeline system serving 135 existing connections and future growth. Funding also includes a 400000 dollar district bond issue approved by voters and loans/grants from Farmers Home Administration and Four Corners Regional Commission. The district will contribute 90000 dollars initially.

HSA Meeting in Duchesne to Discuss Local Health Reviews

The Utah Health System Agency Uintah Basin Subarea Advisory Council will hold its monthly meeting in Roosevelt Duchesne County hospital dining room on Thursday October 13. Dr Dan Price chairs the group and Harry Foster will outline how residents may engage in reviews affecting the Basin. UBSAC members meet at 5 30 p.m for dinner and the public can join at 6 p.m for the presentation.
