Bids were received for Vernal City's WPA water main extension project after approval of $13,500 WPA funds and $1,600 local match. Contractors include Utah Concrete Products Westerm Pipe and Steel Consolidated Steel and others. final award pending Vernal City and WPA committee approval. About 100 men currently work on the sewer project.

Mary S Christensen Early Pioneer Buried

Mary Christensen, 83, pioneer of East Lake City and Ashby Valley, died after weeks of cancer and old age ailments. Funeral services were held Saturday at 11 am in the Vero Nel Second Ward chapel with Charles Carter presiding. Interment followed at Maeser cemetery. Christensen sailed from Liverpool in 1832 and arrived in Utah in 1868, facing hardship on emigration with her husband and children before settling in Salt Lake City and working for ZCMI.

MIA Operetta to Be Shown at Uintah High School

Funeral Rites For Myrtle R. King Held In Vernal

Impressive services were held at the Vernal First Ward Chapel for Myrtle R. King who died Wednesday after a long illness. Bishop Calder presided with speakers noting her devotion as a mother and former Vernal City treasurer. Music included mixed quartet and songs, followed by a large cortege to Vernal Cemetery where the grave was dedicated.

PTA of UHS Holds Its First Meeting Monday

A large audience at the junior and senior high schools attended the first Parent-Teacher association gathering of the school session in the U9 auditorium. President H B Millecam presided as Miss Marie Bingleton's girls provided a trombone solo and a reading by Marjorie Duke. Superintendent L G Noble spoke. Principal H M Lundell introduced the faculty and outlined school aims. A Parents Day was discussed and committees were named to cooperate in each school department.

Vernal Flyers Injured In Plane Crash Near Airport

Vernal pilots Thomas Karren and passenger DeVere Carroll were severely injured when their plane crashed during a landing at Vernal City Airport Sunday evening. Both were transported to Salt Lake hospitals, with Karren later at Holy Cross and Carroll at LS. Witnesses described a gusty approach, plane damage, and fuel leakage but no ignition.

Road conditions in Duchesne and southern Utah areas noted

The report highlights neglected highway sections through forests near Fruftiland in Duchesne County with 40 to 60 miles of road receiving little consideration compared with other routes. A similar disparity exists in southern Utah between Highway 81 and 89 from Cedar City toward Hatch. Mr Cheney of Sheridan is a brother of JA Cheney, cashier of the Uintah State Bank.
