Utah Urged to Buy Christmas Seals to Fight Tuberculosis

Utah is urged to participate in the Seventeenth Annual Christmas Seal sale to raise 50 000 for tuberculosis control. Dr John A Widtsoe leads the statewide drive with 200 county advisory members and local committees, backed by state schools and prominent national figures. The campaign funds a proposed state tuberculosis sanatorium and a summer outdoor camp for affected children.

Land returns to Utah state from school section lands

Three land parcels totaling 8040 acres of school section lands were declared nonmineral at Utah's entry to the union and are to revert to the state. The lands, in Duchesne Summit and San Juan counties and including parts in Ashley National Forest, were once mineral but were not at the time of statehood. Lands are grouped by coal and phosphate considerations with withdrawals noted and mineral status examined.

George McCurdy Wins U. H. S. Cross Country Run

Uintah high school held its first cross country run on Wednesday noon. Of 97 entrants 83 started 73 finished within 15 minutes for two and one sixth miles. McCurdy, a junior, led from the start and held it through the final 50 yards where Porter Merrell, a senior, challenged hard. The Student Body awards a gold medal to the winner and plans an annual event. Burton Chew placed third with Sidney Merkley fourth and Ashlie Manwaring sixth.

Moisture Shortage Recorded At Trout Creek Ranger Station

Ranger Harry Van Tassel notes moisture from July 1 to Oct 31, 1924 at Trout Creek on Taylor Mountain totaled 6.28 inches, down from 9.12 inches in 1923. Snow depth was 13 inches. Freshmen dominated a turkey dinner event with about 1000 points to 300 for juniors, signaling strong interest for next year’s cross country run.
