President Congratulates Oldest Physician on 100th Birthday

Vernal on December 2 1924 marked the 100th birthday of Dr Harvey Coe Hullinger a pioneer in Ashley valley since 1882. He is cited as America’s oldest practicing physician and Utah’s oldest Civil War veteran with a large community celebration in Vernal.

Woman Granted Judgment Against Former Fiance

Mrs. Nellie Smith Reed wife of wrestler Jack Reed won a $350 judgment against William M. Anderson in Second district court judge James N. Kimball presiding. Reed had lent the amount in 1922 during their engagement. Anderson sought recovery of a diamond ring and other items in a counterclaim, a settlement was reached out of court.

Harvey Daniels Sentenced After Guilty Plea

Harvey Daniels of Bennett pleaded guilty to a statutory offense after arrest in Park City. Judge Elias Hansen sentenced him Tuesday to an indeterminate term not to exceed five years in the state penitentiary. Daniels has a wife and children. prison transport date remains undetermined.

The Ernest Trujillo and Harris Murray murder trial before Judge Bilas Hansen began with the jury sworn in at 3 10 PM. Attorneys worked since Tuesday to select jurors from a large crowd as the state presented evidence. It is expected the case will not reach the jury until Saturday evening and Nellie Trujillo and Elnora Van will face a separate trial on the same charge. Immense crowds filled the court room with many spectators unable to gain admission during sessions.

Siddoway and Colton Re-elected to Uintah School Board

In Uintah district No. 2 Vernal area 244 votes cast with 199 for Siddoway and 45 for A Theodore Johnson. Johnson’s name handwritten on ballots. District No. 4 Fort Duchesne Randlett-Celton and Wilson polling places show Colton winning most votes. totals indicate 183 votes with Donaldson and Ackley limited. Returns unofficial.

Engineer Varley Establishes Roosevelt Headquarters

W H Varley resident engineer for road projects 10 A 10 B and 10 C moved his office to Roosevelt on Monday. He will work with M B Moffitt locating engineer on Duchesne county road work and continue supervising project 19 B bridges until their completion, which will take only part of his time.

Vernal Resident John Abplanalp Dies After Thanksgiving Surgery

John Abplanalp of Glines Ward died Saturday morning in Vernal soon after an intestinal obstruction operation performed on Thanksgiving Day. He was born October 21, 1864, in Wasateh Utah to Peter Abplanp and Margarett Bagten Swiss immigrants. Survived by his wife Margaret Potter Roosevelt and several children and siblings, funeral held at 11 a.m. with Bishop M. M. Batty presiding and speakers including John B. Eaton and Joseph McKee.
