Public Utilities Seeks Truck Restraint in Vernal Route Dispute

Attorney general advised consent to a temporary restraining order keeping Roosevelt and Uintah basin truck lines out of Vernal until December 6. Leland Hair and William Wardle face court action with Johnston and Alexander opposing the Roosevelt operation without a certificate of necessity or tax filings. Merchants of Vernal resist state-commission control, favoring local delivery and avoiding Roosevelt trucking into Vernal. Sterling and Eastern Utah firms hold competing franchises.

Funeral Rites Held For Auto Collision Victim At Davis Ward

Funeral services were held at the LDS chapel in Davis Ward for Ira Atwood of Naples who died from injuries after the horse he rode collided with a car on November 14. The rite included prayers by Edward Watkins Jr and remarks by Bishop Alfred Simperin Sterling Haws and Frank Slaugh. A mixed choir sang. Interment followed in Vernal cemetery with a large turnout of relatives. He is survived by his parents Ona, a brother and four sisters.

Auxiliary Head Leaves for Tour of Southern Utah

Mrs Homer E Rich president of the American Legion Auxiliary left Friday for a tour of southern Utah to organize auxiliary units in every town visited having a Legion post but not having an auxiliary unit. Many towns in the southern part of the state fall under this classification and the aim is to organize all required units during her term of office.

Uintah Club Seeks Truck Service From Vernal To Price

A Uintah club special meeting was held Monday to discuss truck service from Vernal to Price. Members and others attended as the state utilities commission action was debated. no final decision was reached. Participants agreed to await further developments between the commission and the parties under the restraining order.

Catholic Official Appoints Vernal Pastor Father Butler

The Rev Thomas and Butler is assigned by Bishop Mitty of Salt Lake City as pastor of St John’s Church Vernal and will oversee Catholic missions in Uintah Duchesne and Daggett counties. Services are Sundays at 10 am in St John’s. Father Butler is a Wall family native from Turlick California and Ireland born, now naturalized U.S. citizen.

Trio Escape Death as Car Overturns Near Ashley Creek

A Maeser trio Bisa Kick Hardy Erma Johnaton and Rosa Holley escaped serious injury when their car overturned twice near a wash bridge on Ver Ra avenue north of Ashley in Vernal. Witnesses say the vehicle, traveling fast, hit shale, lost control while dodging turkeys, then toppled after attempting a turn. Rosa Holley suffered multiple injuries and was hospitalised, with others sustaining fractures and concussions. The wreck drew neighbors to the scene minutes after the crash.

Pardons Denied for Rhodes Murder Accomplices

At the state board of pardons session in Salt Lake City on November 20, Nellie Trujillo and Elnora Van remised were denied pardons for second degree murder as accomplices to Thomas Rhodes murder near Whitework in October 1523.

Fire Sweeps Witmer Furniture Waicroom Threatens Nearby

A fire destroyed the waicroom of the Witmer Furniture store in Vernal and risked adjacent structures. Firefighters confined the blaze to the rear storeroom after about an hour, with $3590 total damage and build stock losses around $2800. The alarm came from a passerby between 6 and 7 pm.

Vernal Youth Royland Campbell Dies After Illness

Royland Edgar Campbell 18 months sufferer from arthritis of the hip and acute nephritis died at his Vernal home. Born August 8 1923 he attended local schools and was a member of the LDS church teachers quorum. Survived by parents two brothers Grant and Laray three sisters Mrs Sherman Dolan of Oakland Calif Orble and Maude. Funeral held at the First Ward LDS chapel with several speakers and a song quartet. Burial followed in Vernal Cemetery under Bishop Jn Davis care.

Landscape Expert Extends Beautifying Campaign in Vernal Wards

Landscape expert Mr Hansen extended Utah Agricultural College beautifying work to Vernal Ashley Valley and adjacent communities from October 17 to 22 1927. Peterson rep and Wallis Calder led local efforts with plans to plant trees shrubs and improve public grounds including schools churches and private lots. The program aims to showcase home garden and street improvements, with Vernal named a nine demonstration community. last year about 1500 trees and shrubs were planted, and residents have ordered plantings for spring.

High School Students Beautify Campus Grounds in Uintah

More than 200 Uintah High School students worked Friday and Saturday to fill and grade grounds for spring seeding and tree shrub planting. The effort was part of a county wide beautification campaign in Vernal, guided by faculty and supported by volunteers.
