Uintah county selects the Colletts for the Balaneid Farm and Home Project winner. The family relocates a house from an auto garage to a new site two miles away, adding a one room frame building to provide sleeping quarters. Mary Collett continues planning for the farm home.
Mary Collett, active in Ashley Ward and 4-H clubs, participated in Relief Society training and food club duties while Vene Collett built a new home. A devastating fire destroyed their temporary home, prompting neighborly aid, a community shower, and coordinated relief. The couple rebuilt foundations with Seventies quorum help and prepared substantial food stores for winter. They own cows and chickens, and stored produce includes 216 quarts vegetables and 181 quarts fruit.
The Uintah High annual cross country run was held Wednesday at about 12 30 PM with Owen Goodrich taking first place, Owen Powell second and Loyal Merkley third after last year’s runners up. The community also notes other local happenings including a car theft, farm bureau meeting, new infant arrivals, heavy snow disrupting travel, and Lions Club Charter Night plans.
The Duchesne county farm bureau reorganized last Thursday evening in Roosevelt. The group went on record favoring exemption from tax of all gasoline used in farm equipment. Van Winterton of Roosevelt spoke during the meeting.
Egyptians used starch over 5000 years ago as adhesive in papyrus sheets. The county reorganized group elected Jack Nielson of Myton as secretary. Captains in communities named: L. J. Gilbert Arcadia, Hale Holgate Arcadia, C. F. Mortensen Myton, Wilford Oberhansley Neola.
Mrs. Stephen Perry returns to Maeser Elementary after rabbit fever illness. Relief Society met at Mrs. Emma Bell's home. Beehive and Junior girls socials were held at Vernal First ward chapel. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Brimhall, married Nov 10 in Salt Lake temple, now reside in Vernal First Ward. Stake MIA Harvest Ball drew many couples at Imperial Hall. Mrs. Hilda Williams and others attended Sunday School board meeting. Nursing service demand noted as vital with American Nurses Association urging better conditions to attract more women to the profession.
