Vernal City approves Industrial Area annexation

The Vernal City Council voted Wednesday to annex the Industrial Area along Highway 40 east of Vernal extending about a mile and three quarters past N O Nelson Co. The move follows state rules requiring a majority signed petition. Annexation brings about 200 000 dollars yearly revenue and 50 000 dollars for Dec Feb tax distribution, with services set at 3.5 mills. The council also authorized City Attorney Ken Anderton to draft a Misdemeanant Citation Ordinance for action in a subsequent meeting.

Temperature device to regulate Flaming Gorge dam waters

A four million dollar project installs large vertical tubes against Flaming Gorge Dam to raise river water temperatures. The system will draw water at depth to keep temperatures around 55 to 60 degrees, slowing fish growth but boosting trout and insect populations. Vernal City election results revised mayoral total

A Vernal Utah city canvass updated mayor votes to 676 for Samuel Snyder after a counting error reduced an unopposed candidate from 704. Twenty six write ins appeared, none above three. Councilmen elected were John J. Stagg with 360 and Gene Aminson with 354. Turnout reached 63 of 2742 registered voters.
