Oil Rig Spudding Planned at Vernal Utah Refinery
Poor road conditions between Watson and Jensen delay spudding on the Utah Refining Co oil well at Vernal. Spudding is expected Saturday or early next week with continuous drilling to reach target depth and test the Pioneer Dakota and Lakota sands. Geologists rate the Vernal structure as among the best tested in Utah and in the United States.

Christmas Seal Sale Committee Selected in County

Immense county crowd witnesses the first memorial of its kind in Utah, dedicated by the Legion Auxiliary. The bronze Dough Boy statue honors World War I servicemen from Uintah County. The Armistice Day ceremony featured prominent speakers, patriotic readings, and a tableaux The event included 1200 school children, ex service members, Boy Scouts, and a band of 20.

Mary Thomas Dies at Maeser After Illness
Funeral services were held for Mary Jane Thomas wife of William J J Thomas who died Friday November 7 after months of suffering at the Maeser ward chapel with Thomas Hingham presiding. Interment was at Rock Point cemetery. She was born March 6 1870 in Greenville Beaver Utah and left eight living children and eighteen grandchildren. The community expressed sympathy to the family. Wallis in Hospital After Injury From Basement Fall
James H. Wallis executive secretary of the Utah Public Health Association remains hospitalized after a painful operation at L P S hospital Salt Lake City. He was injured at Levan Utah when he missed his footing entering a dark basement of a school building in a clean school contest. His daughter reports he is improving though in great pain.
