Roosevelt Youth Loses Finger in Shotgun Mishap

A 13 year old Roosevelt boy, David Bonender, lost the left index finger and sustained finger injuries to his left hand when a hunting companion's shotgun discharged while they hunted rabbits 20 miles east of Neola. The accident occurred about 4 p.m. as the boys waited for a rabbit.

Utah Lists Open Waters For Year Round Fishing

The Department of Fish and Game rated waters open to year round angling include Staley Creek below Vernal Manha Highway the Duchesne River below its confluence with Strawberry River and the Strawberry River below its confluence with Red Creek. The season ends November 15.

Recorder House and Power Line Bids Sought at Dutch John

Bids were advertised for a recorder house a seismograph vault and a power supply line at Tlaming Gorge. Sealed bids due by 10 am November 25 at the Bureau of Reclamation Dutch John office. Vault is a 9 by 12 foot reinforced concrete building with floors walls and roof. Recorder house 8 by 12 foot prefab metal building to complete electrical system. Power line runs about 470 feet from the existing line to the recorder house and 600 feet between vault and recorder house.

Sixty five scout leaders and parents gathered at the Glines LDS chapel for the first session of the third annual Uintah Scout District University of Scouting led by William F Farnsworth. The second of three weekly sessions is planned for tomorrow night at 7 30 pm. Flaming Gorge Eyes 13 Million in Budget for 1961

Vernal Man Aboard Carrier Battles Explosion During Cruise

Vernal resident Whitey Daucum and nine other civilians were aboard the USSS Kearsarge when an ammunition compartment exploded aboard the carrier. The captain said four bulkheads were lost and compartments flooded to prevent further explosions as the ship evacuated. Two men were reported missing as the incident unfolded around midnight Monday and continued into the early hours.
