Mortgage Record Sheds Light On Uintah Pipeline Project

The largest mortgage ever recorded in Uintah County was filed in the courthouse last week by Pacific Northwest Pipeline Corporation. The $93,200,000 mortgage to J. P Morgan and Co Inc and Robert P. Mowe as trustees secures 55 miles of pipeline and rights of way across multiple counties along the route from northwestern New Mexico to Bellingham, Washington. Colton and Hammond of Vernal with Salt Lake attorneys managed local recording for the lender.

Vernal Kiwanis members raised a flag pole at the high school football field as a patriotic project. Colorado River Bill Aims To Benefit Utah In New Year

Vernal Chamber of Commerce leaders report optimism for the Upper Colorado River Storage Project. The plan would spend about 23 million dollars in Utah, include Flaming Gorge, pave highway access, and fund recreation areas at Tyzack and Steinsker reservoirs. A construction camp at Duchesne is planned to boost local economy. A Washington office for the Grassroots committee will contact eastern congressmen.

Elk hunts announced for Brown's Park Three Corners Utah

Utah Fish and Game announced a special elk hunt in the Brown's Park Three Corners area from November 12 to 22. Additional hunts are set for Fish Lake from November 19 to 28 and Ogden River with a five day window beginning on or after November 1.

Stores to Close Friday for Veteran's Day Observance

Veteran's Day November 11 will close many Vernal banks stores and business houses. Only essential services such as service stations and drug stores will operate. Armistice Day originated after World War I and was renamed Veteran's Day by President Eisenhower.

Lost Children Spend Night Out In Chilly Weather

Ten year old Solomon and eight year old Selina, adopted Indian children of Mrs. Carol Skelton of Vernal, were found Saturday at 9 30 p m after an all night search by the National Guard and Civil Air Patrol. They had wandered since 6 15 p m Friday while walking home from a party at the Staley home. Found near an old deserted house east of the Staley residence, Selina said she slept most of the time and Solomon led her. The mother fed them hot soup and tucked them into bed.

Uintah School District spent 20328.77 for grade A milk and 5558.04 for coal during 1954 55. Milk suppliers were Hi Land Dairy and Piedmont Dairy with totals of 9956.23 and 10372.54 respectively. Coal providers included Staley Coal Company 4666.05 Wardle Cost Co 445.54 Bryant Roper 226.81 and Birchell Coal Co 160.44. The board discussed lighting costs at the new high school auditorium and gym rates, planned a convention attendance, long distance call monitoring, and bus fleet status with several buses over 16 years old.

Pheasant Hunt Draws Crowds to Uintah County

Vernal hotels report full capacity as the five day pheasant hunt opens Friday. Up to 500 hunters expected. locals posted hundreds of No Hunting signs to protect farms. Opening hours 8 a m to 5 30 p m with cock birds only and a bag limit of three. quail seasons run concurrently with a similar limit.

Vernal City Council discussed outside water line connections with a plan based on a 44 inch line, five shares of Ashley Reservoir stock, and 75 dollars per connection to the nearest city property line. Grading Starts at Uintah Stake Recreation Park

Grading work began on Uintah Stake Recreation Park upgrading the new recreation center beside Jaycee ball park. Lyon N Murdock said eight poles would be set and the softball diamond laid out before bad weather halted progress, with the park primarily for softball and later marked for baseball tennis and horseshoes.

Henry Millecam Sr was elected president of the Utah Colorado Highway 40 Association at a Craig Colorado meeting.
