Diane Busch won 1st prize at the State Fair in Food Preparation. The list of participants includes Carol Lee Bennion, Peggy Nobinson, Jools Dudley, Coleen Feltch, Harold Rust in Entomology, Nolan Preece in Forestry, Fred Weeks and Mervin Weeks in Gardening, Kirk Jolley, Francis Feltch, Rosanne Henderson, Sharon Nedbeck, Linda Taylor in Home Economics, and Kathleen Cundick, Leslie Spendloye, Cheryl Siddoway, Karen Birchey in Home Improvement.
Uintah County 4-H Club leaders and workers were honored Saturday in the courthouse on National 4-H Achievement Day. About 140 girls and 80 boys carried 4-H projects this year under Agricultural Agents Wm Farnsworth and Lloyd A Clement and Home Agent Jessie M Eller, with awards for record books and various project categories.
Ver nal Utah October 31 Pat Lopez 80 of Artesia was cited for hit and run and driving on a revoked license after his car hit a parked vehicle owned by Lyman Merkley on Vernal Avenue at 6 30 pm Thursday. Claude Walls a night policeman observed the fleeing vehicle and Lopez was bond at 125 in Justice Court that same evening.
A two car collision at the intersection of 1st South and 2nd East on October 23 left LeRoy Luck, 17, and Karma Lilian Kurtz, 21, with total damage estimated at 300 dollars. Luck drove a 1951 Trudson east on 1st South and passed a right turning car, violating yield right of way. The Luck car sustained about 200 dollars damage and Kurtz’s Studebaker pickup about 160 dollars.
A fanciful notice from Santa Claus urges youngsters to write letters to the North Pole. It states the Vernal Express will publish the letters and that Santa will collect and deliver requests in time for Christmas Day, signing with wishes of love from Santa and the North Pole.
Mr and Mrs Larry Pennington and daughter Becky of Westport Washington are in Vernal for a week visiting Mrs Laura Pennington and brother Marlin Pennington and family They plan to visit relatives in Colorado and Wyoming before returning home.

Mrs J Klekham mother of Mrs J Arden Jolley stayed at the Jolley home in Vernal a week. Before returning to Salt Lake City Monday evening the Jolley family welcomed a new grandson born Monday morning Nov 4 at Uintah County Hospital. The addition brings their total sons to five and includes one daughter.
